the First-Team All-Division squad and Jared Awokande was voted
onto the Second Team All-Division squad. This is the
second consecutive season that both Bobby and Jared have earned
All-Division accolades.
MAR 4/06 TOWNIES AND SAINT RAY'S
PLAY A LATE-NIGHT, TIGHT BATTLE, WITH THE SAINTS WINNING 54-47.
The final score doesn't due justice to the game that was played
tonight. Both teams staged runs to get themselves back
into the game and to put themselves in the lead. The game
was tied 29-29 at the half, with both teams fighting for
survival. The second half played out the same way until
about the 3:00 minute mark. Saint Ray's hit two huge three
pointers, and EP responded by have two key turnovers and a
missed 10 footer which turned out to be the determining factors.
The Townies played very tough over the final week and a half of
the season, and were a couple of possessions away from the
semi-finals. This game was the last for seniors Dave
Ferreira, Billy Miller and Kirk Denham. I would like to
thank them for their hard work, effort and commitment over the
last two years.
MAR 2/06 DUE TO
CANCELLATION OF ALL AFTERNOON ACTIVITIES DUE TO THE STORM, THE
TEAM WILL HAVE A WALK-THRU/PRACTICE TOMORROW AT 2:30. THE BUS IS
SCHEDULED FOR 7:30.
FEB 28/06 TOWNIES TRAVEL DOWN
TO REBEL COUNTRY AND THUMP SOUTH KINGSTOWN 71-48.
The Townies went into a tough gym, against a tough team, and
a tough crowd, and made a statement. The Townies played
their best game of the season at the most important time of the
year. The guard trio of senior Billy Miller, and juniors
Bobby Perry and Jared Awokande combined to shoot 22-33 (66%) had
11 rebounds and 5 steals to lead the way for the Townies.
EP continually attacked the basket, and then countered with
excellent perimeter shooting. The team played with heart,
fire and a sense of urgency. All elements that were
lacking during the regular season. The Townie defense
baffled the Rebels, and forced them into shooting 18% in the
second half. The Townie duo of Nate Lovett and Tory
Thornton limited the Rebel's leading scorer to just five points.
After all that is said, the team can't rest as they move into
the quarterfinals. EP will face # 3 seed, St. Ray's
(Division 1 North Champion) at 9:00 on Friday night at CCRI
in Warwick. The Townies dropped the first meeting
between the two teams 64-55.
FEB 25/06 TOWNIES ARE
SEEDED #11 AND WILL FACE # 6 SEED SOUTH KINGSTOWN ON TUESDAY
NIGHT. EP will travel to South Kingstown for
the first round of the playoffs. Game time is scheduled
for 7:00. S.K. defeated the Townies less than two weeks
ago 47-38. EP shot 27% for the game and couldn't get on
track offensively. Tuesday's winner will face #3 seed St.
Ray's, on Friday night at 9:00 at CCRI in Warwick.
The Townie JV squad lost their quarterfinal game to Smithfield,
55-44. The team had a solid season and showed great
improvement from November through the end of the season.
FEB 24/06 WITH THEIR
BACKS AGAINST THE WALL, THE TOWNIES COME OUT ON SENIOR NIGHT AND
DEFEAT FIRST PLACE MT. PLEASANT, 69-60. EP came
out tonight with the intensity, focus and desire needed to win a
"must-win" game vs. Mt. Pleasant. The Townies needed to
win and have Tolman lose to St. Ray's (which they did) in order
to have a shot at a playoff berth. The team has played so
inconsistently all season and needed to have a good game in
order to have a chance at winning. Three seniors, Kirk
Denham, Billy Miller and Dave Ferreira, played their last
home game, and they made it a memorable one. The seniors
combined for 34 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals.
Junior Jared Awokande played his best game in a while, as he had
a game high, 20 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal and 1
block. EP shot a season high, 50%, for the game. The
Townies have the possibility of being the 12, 11, or 10 seed.
With any of those seeds, the team will be playing on the road on
Tuesday in the opening round of the playoffs. The
Townie JV squad closed out the regular season with a 61-44
victory. The team will have a short rest as they head down
to North Kingstown tomorrow morning for a 11:30 tip off vs.
Smithfield in the State Junior Varsity Tournament.
FEB 21/06 BOTH VARSITY AND JUNIOR
VARSITY LOSE AT HOPE
VARSITY SCORE 74-48, JUNIOR VARSITY 56-52
FEB 19/06 JUNIOR VARSITY
WINS FIRST ROUND GAME VS. ST. RAY'S 63-61. In a
game that saw the biggest lead of 8 points in the early minutes,
the Townies came from behind to win and advance to the
quarterfinals. Both teams played hard and had some good
runs, but EP had some timely shooting from Craig Hannaway, and
the inside dominance of Steve Maisano. Hannaway scored all
12 of his points in the second half, including two big threes,
and Maisano had a team high 22 points to go along with 10
rebounds, and 8 blocks. The Townies will continue the
tourney next Saturday (25th) at 11:30 vs. #1 seed, Smithfield.
The game will be played at North Kingstown H.S. The
Townies lost by 4 in their previous match-up with the Sentinels.
However, the Townies led for much of the game.
FEB 17/06 IN A
NIGHT OF OVERTIMES, BOTH GAMES GO TO LASALLE, VARSITY 65-63 OT,
AND JV 73-67 IN 2 OT'S. Tonight turned
out to be the night of clutch shots, missed free throws and
tough, hard-nosed basketball. The Townies came out very
slow and flat and trailed 11-2 early. The team had no
intensity or rhythm to their game. LaSalle led at the half
34-27. EP, behind some tough man defense came back hard in
the second half. The Townies took the lead for short
stretches late in the game and didn't capitalize on some free
throw opportunities. Senior, captain, Dave Ferreira hit a
game tying three point shot as the buzzer went off to send the
game into overtime. In the OT, both teams matched shots
early and EP missed some free throws to keep the game tied.
LaSalle hit their free throws to get to a four point lead and
EP's last shot made it a two point game. The team showed
great heart and pride in the second half, and forced their way
back into the game. The team will now prepare for Hope on
Tuesday, on the road (7:30). The JV squad went into double
overtime and dropped their contest after battling hard the whole
game. The team went 20 for 40 from the free throw line, in
what was a huge deciding factor. The team had a very
successful week, and is ready to start the JV State Tourney on
Sunday at 12:00 at North Providence H.S. Their opponent
will be area rival, St. Ray's.
FEB 16/06
TOWNIES BRING THE INTENSITY ON THE DEFENSIVE END, BUT GO ICE
COLD OFFENSIVELY, LOST TO SOUTH KINGSTOWN 47-38.
In games where you give up only 47 points, and your opponent has
13 field goals, you expect to win. However, the Townies
couldn't get anyone on track offensively, as the team shot 27%
(13-47). The Townies had a variety of offensive shots.
The ball movement was solid and the team had some good, open
looks that just wouldn't go down. The Rebels continued to
make tough shots as the shot clock expired (3 times) and made
some acrobatic shots go down. The team can't get down, as
we turn around and face league rival, LaSalle tomorrow night
(7:30). The Townie JV squad is picking up momentum as it
heads into the opening weekend of the JV State Tournament.
The team defeated a good S.K. team that was 10-4 coming into the
game, 48-39. Steve Maisano and Rob Smith led the way for
the Townies.
Feb 14 /06 TOWNIES
BREAK DROUGHT, DEFEAT COVENTRY 61-47. The
Townies picked up a much needed win tonight as they led from
tip-off to the final buzzer. EP can still make a strong
playoff push by playing well in the final four games of the
regular season. The Townies were paced tonight by Jared
Awokande's team high 16 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 2
blocks. Forwards Tory Thornton and Nate Lovett combined
for 14 points, 15 rebounds, and 4 blocks. The Townies will
now prepare for back to back home games vs. South Kingstown
(Thurs. 16th) and LaSalle (Fri, 17th). The Townie JV squad
picked up a 55-48 win as they prepare for the State JV Tourney
this Sunday. Derrick MacLeod turned in a great effort as
he had 14 points, 5 rebounds and numerous hustle plays.
FEB 12/06
THE TOWNIE JV TEAM WILL BE PLAYING IN THE STATE JUNIOR
VARSITY TOURNAMENT ON SUNDAY FEBRUARY 19TH AT 12:00 AT NORTH
PROVIDENCE H.S. THE TOWNIES EARNED THE #9 SEED AND WILL BE
PLAYING #8 SEED, ST. RAY'S.
FEB 10/06 SOUTH KINGSTOWN
GAME RESCHEDULED FOR THURSDAY THE 16TH. The
Rebels will be coming to East Providence for a 7:30 varsity game
and 5:45 junior varsity game. The Townies will then come
back on Friday night to host rival LaSalle.
FEB 8/06 HAWKS COME TO EAST
PROVIDENCE AND BEAT THE TOWNIES, 74-58.
The Townies once again played a lackluster first half that
was marred by poor shooting and weak defense. Hendricken
shot 62% in the first half, compared to the Townies 24%.
The Hawks dominated the paint leading to numerous offensive
putbacks. The Townies went through a 4 minute dry spell
that affected their defensive intensity and team attitude.
Hendricken led 35-16 at the half. In the second half, the
Townies played much harder, and played together. The team
cut the lead to 8 with about 6:00 to play but couldn't get it
any lower. Hendricken powered the ball into the post and scored
on offensive rebounds. The Townies couldn't hold off a
Hendricken 6 point run that got the lead back to 14 and stayed
there for the rest of the half. EP was paced by captains,
Bobby Perry and Dave Ferreira. Ferreira turned in 13
points and 5 rebounds in his first action in over a week, due to
an ankle injury. Perry turned in a game high 30 points,
while also returning from an ankle injury. The team's game
vs. South Kingstown which was originally scheduled for Friday
night, has been postponed. A date and time has not yet
been determined. The Townie JV squad dropped their game
48-39. The team fought very hard and had the lead at
certain points in the contest. Hendricken came into the
game with only 2 losses. The team was led by Steve
Maisano's 12 points and 10 rebounds.
FEB 8/06 THE GAME
VS. SOUTH KINGSTOWN SCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY FEBRUARY, 10TH AT HOME,
HAS BEEN POSTPONED DUE TO A SCHEDULING CONFLICT AT THE
HIGHSCHOOL. THE NEW DATE IS TO BE ANNOUNCED.
FEB 2/06 BOTH VARSITY AND
JUNIOR VARSITY TEAMS LOSE TO NORTH KINGSTOWN.
Varsity score 50-39, Junior Varsity score 61-44.
JAN 31/06 SECOND HALF
DROUGHT PROVES TOO MUCH TO OVERCOME, TOWNIES FALL TO ST. RAY'S
64-55. The Townies returned to action vs. the
Division 1 North leading Saints, and played a very solid first
half. A three pointer at the buzzer gave the Saints a
32-28 half-time lead. Seniors, Billy Miller, and Kirk
Denham played solid first halfs, and stepped up to make
big shots for the Townies. The second half began tightly
as both teams exchanged leads, and many ties. EP hit the
10 minute mark down 1 and then proceeded to go scoreless for the
next 6 minutes and 30 seconds. The team missed some wide
open shots, and also couldn't get some lay-ups to go down.
With 2:36 remaining on the clock the Townies were down 15.
The team fought hard in the least minutes and caused a few
turnovers which led to some break away baskets. the team
cut the lead to as low as 5 and had an opportunity for a steal,
but just missed. The Saints converted their free-throws
down the stretch to seal the win. St. Ray's shot 21-29
from the line while the Townies only attempted 8 and made 4.
The team's next game is at North Kingstown on Thursday night at
7:00. The Townie JV squad picked up their third
consecutive victory in a tight game (49-46). Freshman Nico
Gouveia hit two free throws down the stretch to make it a 3
point lead.
JAN 27/06 TOWNIES BATTLE
HARD, BUT CAN'T PULL OUT A VICTORY AT WOONSOCKET 78-66.
The Townies returned to action in dire need of
getting a win and getting back to playing solid basketball, and
the start of the game look promising. EP led by 6 with
about 10 minutes to go in the first half, and then Woonsocket
went on a run that saw them take a 8 point lead. The
Townies got sloppy with the ball in the closing seconds, and
Woonsocket hit a three at the buzzer to put them up 13.
The Townies outscored the Villa Novans in the second half, but
defensively could not get enough stops. The Villa Novans
shot 50% for the game, and sot 53% from 3 point land. The
Townie defense has uncharacteristically been average and giving
up too much dribble penetration. Junior captain, Bobby
Perry had a season high 36 points, and also addded 5 steals, 4
rebounds, and 2 assists. Jared Awokande had a team high 10
rebounds. The Townies host area rival, St. Ray's on
Tuesday night (1/31) at 7:30. The Saints are in first
place in Division 1 North. The Townie JV team picked up a
win, as the team played solid defense, and lived through two
offensive droughts of over 3 minutes. Rob Smith had a
season high 28 points, and Steve Maisano had 16 points, and 12
rebounds.
JAN 24/06 TOWNIES CAN'T
FIND ANY CONSISTENCY, LOSE AT TOLMAN, 55-51.
The Townies once again got off to a slow start and had to play
from behind all night. The team lacked intensity and
urgency in the first half and trailed by 4 at the break.
The team uncharacteristically gave up easy transition points and
couldn't manage to knock down open shots. Four Townies
came into the game in the second half and sparked the team with
pride, tenacity, hard work, and execution. Juniors, Isaac
Spivey, Drew Corria, Tory Thornton and sophomore Nate Lovett
combined with Bobby Perry to bring the team from 10 points down
to within two points. The Townies had two opportunities to
take the lead or tie. A three point shot went in and out
and a half court steal led to a contested, missed layup.
Bobby had a game high 24 points, and Tory Thornton provided 6
rebounds in the second half action. The Townies drop below
.500 for the first time this season in league play. The
team will travel to Woonsocket on Friday, game time is 7:30.
The Townie JV squad had an improved effort and picked up a 55-34
win. Craig Hannaway led the way with 11 points.
JAN 20/06 EAST PROVIDENCE
HAS A LACKLUSTER EFFORT VS. SMITHFIELD, LOSE 51-37.
After turning in a solid performance on Wednesday night,
the Townies returned home and had a terrible first half.
There was no energy, intensity, a determination to give
Smithfield
any opposition, or keep them off the boards. The Sentinels
out-rebounded the Townies in the first half, 17-9. They
had numerous open shots and shot 57% in the first half.
The Townies trailed 32-16 at the break. The team showed
better energy in the second half, but had a 16 point deficit to
come back from. The team outscored Smithfield 21-19 in the
second half. the Townies drop to 4-4 at home and haven't
taken advantage of the home court. The team has a
challenging week ahead as we go on the road, to Tolman (Tuesday
night) and Woonsocket (Friday night). The team must
develop some consistency and push hard to get back on track.
The Townie JV squad also dropped their game tonight, 39-35.
The team scored 13 second half points and let the game slip away
in the final minutes.
JAN 18/06 TOWNIES GET BACK TO
WINNING, DEFEAT CLASSICAL 66-52. East
Providence had a solid team effort and played very well
defensively to pick up the team's fourth league win. The
Townies mad sure to extend out to Classical's long range shooter
and limited their second chance opportunities. EP hit the
boards hard tonight picking up a season high 20offensive
rebounds, and out-rebounded the Purple by 16. The Townies
were led by senior, captain, Dave Ferreira's game high 20 points
and 12 rebounds. Sophomore, forward Nate Lovett again
provided a spark off the bench as he contributed 9 points and 6
boards. The Townies are looking to keep this momentum and
solid team play as they head into Friday night's home contest
vs. Smithfield (7:30). The Townie JV team turned in a
lackluster performance and dropped their game 75-51. The
team had a season high 25 turnovers, and didn't have any
intensity or fight. The team must begin to play better as
league play continues, and the State JV Playoffs loom only three
and a half weeks away.
JAN 15/06 TOWNIES LOSE GAME TO
CENTRAL (76-53), IN FIRST MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY CLASSIC AT JOHN
HOPE SETTLEMENT HOUSE.
The Townies fought hard, executed well and trailed by 10 with
three minutes to go, but ran out of gas. Central led 41-24
at the break, and showed some much better shooting than in the
teams' first meeting. The Townies were out-rebounded by
15, by a much bigger Central team. Many of those rebounds
led to offensive put-backs. Junior, captain, Bobby Perry
had a team high 23 points and 9 rebounds, and Nate Lovett and
Kirk Denham displayed some much improved interior play.
The Townies will return to the court on Wednesday night at 7:00
at Classical High School.
JAN 13/06 TOWNIES DROP
SECOND STRAIGHT LEAGUE GAME, LOSE TO CRANSTON EAST 48-46.
The Townies once again put up a good defensive effort, but come
up short offensively. EP trailed at the half 28-23.
The team has relied to heavily on the three point shot, and has
not seen the results that we want. The team shot 7-24 from
three point range, and only got to the free throw line 6 times.
The Townies fought back hard in the second half and turned a 5
point deficit into a 5 point lead after 3 minutes had gone off
the clock. EP couldn't capitalize on their possessions in
the middle stages of the second half. With EP trailing
46-43, senior, guard Billy Miller hit a three in the corner to
tie the game at 46, with about 17 seconds to play.
Cranston East got a foul call and made both free throws.
EP got the ball to half court and inbounded the ball to Bobby
Perry, who's half-court three hit the front of the rim as time
expired. Junior, Drew Corria came off the bench to provide
the Townies with a much needed first half spark. The
Townie JV picked up a nice win, 59-45, after playing
sluggish in the first half. EP was led by DeJon Steele's
11 points, and Jamie Medeiros' 10. The Varsity will return
to the court on Sunday, at the John Hope House for the first
Martin Luther King Classic. The Townies will be playing
league rival, Central at 4:00.
JAN 10/06 TOWNIES CAN'T FIND
THEIR TOUCH, LOSE TO CRANSTON WEST 54-36. The
Townies traveled to Cranston tonight, but left their shooting
touch in East Providence. EP shot 12 for 57 (21%)
for the game, and 4 for 22 from three point land (18%).
Many shots were around the rim and out, early in the game, and
that prevented EP from staying within single digits in the first
half. The Townies trailed 28-14 at the break.
Cranston West shot 51 % for the game, and outrebounded the
Townies 40-30. The Townies fought hard inside, but West's
height won out in the end. The Townies won't dwell on this
game as they will prepare for Friday night's home game vs.
Cranston East. Game time is 7:30. The Townies JV's
picked up a nice win tonight, 45-36. After a slow start,
the Townies picked it up in the last 6 minutes of the first
half. Nate Lovett led the team with 9 points.
JAN 6/06 TOWNIES HOLD OFF CENTRAL
SECOND HALF SURGE, WIN 53-46. After playing
their best basketball of the season in the first half, the
Townies almost came unglued in the second half. EP
controlled the first half with solid offensive execution, and
tough defense. EP shot 50% from three point land in the
first half and frustrated Central's half court offense. EP
would take a 35-25 lead into the half. The second half
played out as another game. EP went cold from the field
(35%), became rattled by Central's pressure and lost their
rhythm and continuity. EP had a 21 point lead come all the
way down to four. EP hit a couple of free throws in the 1
and 1 situation that increased the lead to seven. Jared Awokande led the Townies with a game high 19 points and 9
rebounds. Bobby Perry played a solid all- around game as
he finished with 15 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and
2 blocks. Bobby only had 1 turnover despite Central's
tough second half pressure. The team now prepares for
another stiff test, this one from the Central Division leading
Cranston West Falcons. The game is Tuesday at 7:00 at
West. The Townie JV team dropped a tough one, 72-50. The
team had closed the gap to seven points, but struggled to hold
off Central runs in the second half.
JAN 4/06 TOWNIES WIN A
TOUGH ONE IN OVERTIME VS MOUNT PLEASANT 58-56.
In yet another tough Division 1 East match-up, the Townies
overcame first half foul trouble, and and some poor free throw
shooting to pull out the win. Junior guards, Bobby Perry
and Jared Awokande had early foul trouble and didn't score a
point in the first half. The Townies picked each other up,
led by seniors Billy Miller, Dave Ferreira, and Kirk Denham and
trailed 27-21 at the half. The second half was a back and
forth fight as the Townies took the lead with about 7:00 minutes
to go and led by as many as seven. The Kilties battled
back and took a three point lead with about 45 seconds left.
Junior, captain, Bobby Perry hit a clutch three to tie the game
and Mount missed their game winning shot as the second half
expired. In the overtime, EP outscored Mount 9-7 and
picked a a big division and league win. The Townie JV
squad dropped a tough one 58-51. The team was led by Rob
Smith's game high 17 points. The games don't get any
easier as league rival Central High School comes to town on
Friday night.
JAN 3/06 TOWNIES GAME VS. MOUNT
PLEASANT PPD UNTIL TOMORROW NIGHT AT MT. PLEASANT.
Due to school cancellation, tonight's game has been moved to
tomorrow night. The game was originally scheduled to be a
home contest, but due to scheduling difficulties, the game will
now be played at Mt. Pleasant. The game on February 24th,
the last game of the regular season, will now be held at East
Providence. Game time tomorrow night is 5:45 (JV), and
7:30 (Varsity). Bus time is 4:45.
TOWNIES BOUNCE BACK WITH SOLID EFFORT
AGAINST PILGRIM, WIN 67-41. EP returned to the
court for their third game in four nights, and turned in a good
outing. The team had good ball movement and showed poise
and confidence. The Townies were paced by senior, captain,
Dave Ferreira's career high 25 points. Dave connected on 5
of 8 three point shots. Hopefully this game will bring the
Townies into rhythm as they begin the heart of league play.
The team will return to the court on Tuesday, Jan 3 vs. Mount
Pleasant. The Townie JV squad picked up victory as they
lead from start to finish. The final was 61-55.
Steve Maisano (18 points) and Rob Smith (17 points) led the way
for the Townies. The Townie freshman team completed a
successful holiday week, by defeating Portsmouth in the finals
of the North Kingstown Holiday Tournament. The freshman
went 3-0 for the week.
TOWNIES LOSE SECOND GAME OF HOLIDAY
TOURNAMENT 49-46. After playing a lackluster
first three minutes of basketball, and trailing 8-0, the Townies
came back to lead 25-17 at the half. The team played a
sluggish second half, as they went in and out of spurts of good
basketball, and stretches were everything was a struggle.
The team has yet to play 32 minutes of consistent basketball.
The team will work to find their rhythm and execution on Friday
night at home vs. Pilgrim. Game times are 5:45 (JV) and
7:30 for Varsity.
TOWNIES DEFEAT PONAGANSET 57-45, IN THE
FIRST GAME OF THE EAST PROVIDENCE COMMUNITY AND TEACHER'S CREDIT
UNION HOLIDAY CLASSIC. EP took home a win,
though the team wasn't pleased with their performance. EP
led 31-17 at the break and Ponaganset closed the deficit to four
in the second half. EP shot 13-17 from the free throw line, and
pushed the margin back into double digits. The Townies
seemed out of sync and tried to do things too fast at times.
EP was led by Jared Awokande's team high 15 points. Billy
Miller added 13 and co-captain Dave Ferreira had 10. The
Townies will play North Providence in the second game of the
Holiday Classic at 7:30 on Wednesday night. Ponaganset and
LaSalle will tip-off at 6:00.
TOWNIES PICK UP MUCH NEEDED WIN, BEAT
HOPE 47-44. In a typical Division I East
match-up, gritty and tough, the Townies earned the victory and evened their
record at 1-1 in the Division. East Providence started
very well, and had the intensity that has been missing in some
early games. Junior, Captain Bobby Perry hit the team's
first few shots and the team followed with a good first half
performance. Score at the half was 28-23. The
Townies struggled for a while in the second half offensively,
but their defense kept them in the lead. The team has to
learn how to finish games, by making crucial free throws and
making better finishing decisions. Bobby had a season high
23 points and also had a team high 6 rebounds and two steals.
Junior transfer, Tory Thornton added some much needed toughness
to the team in the second half. The Townie JV squad also
got back on the winning track, winning convincingly 59-36.
The team put forth a solid effort for 32 minutes and the result
showed. Sophomore's Kyle Towne and Harrison Songolo had 13
points each. The Townies are off until Tuesday night vs
North Providence (7:30) in the East Providence Community and
Teacher's Credit Union Classic. Games begin at 6:00, with
LaSalle playing Ponaganset. Happy Holidays to all.
TOWNIES DROP LEAGUE OPENER TO LASALLE,
49-45. The Townies played a game of two
different halves tonight. The Townies played their best
half of basketball this season and took a 28-19 lead into the
half. The Townies moved the ball offensively and were
aggressive attacking the basket. Defensively the team was
active and played as a unit. The second half brought about
the changes. The team lacked the aggressiveness and the
shots stopped falling. LaSalle moved to a zone defense and
the Townies became passive, and too perimeter orientated.
The Townies were led by junior Jared Awokande's 10 points and
game high 9 rebounds. The team must now prepare for Hope
on Friday night at home, game time is 7:30. The Townie
JV's also dropped their league opener 52-40. The Townies
were led by Steve Maisano's 13 points.
TOWNIES GO DOWN HARD, LOSE TO ROGERS
56-36. The Townies could not overcome a bad
early stretch of basketball, that was marred by 6 early
turnovers and 20% shooting. Rogers was more aggressive and
assertive everywhere on the floor on their way to a convincing
win. The Townies were out of sync and flustered most of
the night. The team now must get ready to start league
play, which begins Wednesday, December 21st at rival LaSalle.
The Townie JV's also dropped their first game of the year,
52-37. Both teams played almost identical games, and need
to get back to work and get prepared for Wednesday.
TOWNIES PICK UP SECOND ROAD VICTORY,
DEFEAT WARWICK VETS, 57-53. The Townies
earned their second win of the season, overcoming a sluggish
first half, and foul trouble. The team lacked a sense of
urgency and defensive intensity in the first half as the
Hurricanes out-hustled and out-scrapped the Townies. EP
led at the half 27-24. The second half showed more
intensity from the Townies but the Hurricanes wouldn't go away
and the game came down to execution and free throws at the end.
Overall the Townies hurt themselves from the line going 12-24.
Sophomore, Nate Lovett provided a huge lift off the bench,
scoring 8 points and adding 12 rebounds. Nate hit two big
threes within the final five minutes to keep the Townie lead
above six points. Bobby Perry had a game high 16 points.
The Townies next play on Thursday night at 7:30, in the home
opener. The opponent will be Rogers H.S., who is a
formidable foe and former rival of the Townies in the early and
mid 90's. The Townie JV squad picked up their second win
of the year in convincing fashion, 53-31. The Townies were
led by Steve Maisano's 9 points, game high 15 rebounds and 5
blocks.
TOWNIES OPEN SEASON WITH 47-33 WIN OVER
TIVERTON (INJURY FUND GAME). The Townies traveled down to
Tiverton, and came up with a 14 point victory. It wasn't a
pretty game, but the defensive effort was good for opening
night. Perfection wasn't expected offensively, but the
Townies struggled from the field, shooting 33% and shooting 40%
from the free throw line (6-15). Junior guard Bobby Perry
led the way with 17 points and 4 rebounds. Sophomore, Nate Lovett had a team high 8 rebounds. The Townies return
to action on Monday night at Warwick Vets, game time is 7:00.
The Townie JV squad turned in an impressive first outing,
winning 56-42. Sophomore Rob Smith had a game high 26
points.
