Quarterfinal Round @ Rhode Island College
The Townies saw their spectacular
season come to a close with a heartbreaking loss against number 4 seeded
Tolman at RIC on Saturday night. The team saw a six point lead at the five
minute mark disappear with some shaky offensive possesions, a missed lay-up,
a couple of missed free throws, and some questionable calls down the
stretch. Still the Townies held a small 3 point lead with under six seconds
to play when senior guard Leeana Fanning nailed a 26 foot shot at the buzzer
to send the game into overtime. Fanning, who led the Tigers with 36 points,
also hit a huge 3 pointer in OT, which put them up 3. The Townies answered
with a 2 pointer of their own, then got a stop with 16 seconds left to play.
Amanda Cabral then drove the length of the court and had her shot rattle in
and out. Derrricka Person came down with the rebound, clearly drew the
contact but once again was not rewarded the foul call. After Fanning nailed
both free throws, the Townies had one last effort and saw their 3 point shot
rattle in and out at the buzzer. Although the loss hurts, these ladies have
nothing to hang their heads about. They finished the year with a 21-4
overall record 14-2 in league play. Before this loss the team had rattled
off 14 wins in a row, and continued to push themselves everyday to get
better. The game ends a spectacular career for the Townies lone senior
Amanda Cabral. I would personally like to thank Amanda for her hard work and
dedication to both myself, as well as Girls Basketball here in East
Providence.

Wiggins scores her 1000th
On behalf of the East Providence High
School girls basketball program, as well as the entire athletic department,
we would like to congratulate Michaela Wiggins on being the first female
basketball player to score 1000 points in her career. What makes this feat
so special is that Michaela is only a junior, and has also acquired 916
rebounds so far in her career. Please check this week's EP POST for a story
featuring this accomplishment. Congratulations once again.
March 3, 2010
East Providence 57 Tiverton 26
The Townies earned themselves a chance to play in the
Quarterfinal round of the playoffs this Saturday afternoon by defeating
Tiverton in the opening round of the State Tournament. The team had one of
its best defensive performances of the season, holding the visiting Tigers
to 13 points in each half. The team was paced by Michaela Wiggins finishing
with 19 points. Amanda Cabral and Charlotte Newton had 14 and 12
points respectively. Victoria Blaydes chipped in 7 points and 20 rebounds.
The team will play Tolman this Saturday at Rhode Island College. Game time
is 4:00. Please make every effort to come and show your support.
Townies Playoff Picture is Set!!! The team earned
themselves the 5th seed in the upcoming State Playoffs. The league had to
use multiple tie-breakers to find the Townies' opponent, and when the dust
settled it was Tiverton who will be visiting East Providence this Wednesday,
March 3rd at 7:00. Please make every effort to come out and show your
support to our players.
February 26, 2010
East Providence 58 Tiverton 28
The Townies finished their regular season picking up their 20th overall win
of the year, and finishing with a 14-2 record in DII East. The team was led
by Alyssa Dias and her career high 20 points. Michaela Wiggins picked up a
double-double with 13 points and 14 boards. Taylor Wiggins chipped in 12
points of her own. Senior Amanda Cabral, who was honored on Senior Night as
the team's only senior, finished with 8 rebounds,
6 assists, and 7 steals. The JV team finished off their season the right way
winning 51-42. Congrats to the JV team on a great year filled with
tremendous hard work and progress made. They finished with an overall record
of 10-10, and made an appearance in the semi-final round of this year's
Junior Varsity State Tournament.
February 23, 2010
East Providence 63 Rogers 45
The team gave a great second half effort to extend
their small five point halftime lead (26-21), against the visiting Vikings.
The team was able to utilize solid defense and smart offensive execution to
seal the victory. Michaela Wiggins led all scorers with 18 points and 14
boards, while Victoria Blaydes also added a double-double of her own with 11
points and 11 rebounds. Amanda Cabral had an overall solid game with 14
points, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Shania Connor gave a much needed spark off
the bench totaling 9 points and 6 boards. The JV team dropped a hard fought
loss minus the services of their leading scorer Mary Monagle. Both teams
prepare to play their regular season finale this Friday against the Tiverton
Tigers. The game is also Senior Night, in which we will be honoring our lone
senior Amanda Cabral. Please come out and support Amanda and the rest of the
Townies. Game times are 5:45 and 7:30.
February 19, 2010
East Providence 63 Portsmouth 46
The Townies picked up a huge road victory by beating
previously unbeaten Portsmouth in an East battle. The team played with a
purpose, and showed a great deal of desire and determination on the floor
tonight. Michaela Wiggins paced the Townies with 25 points and 18 boards.
Victoria Blaydes had a monster night on the glass, ripping down a career
high 20 rebounds to go along with her 8 points. Alyssa Dias and Amanda
Cabral both played well at the guard spot, finishing with 12 and 10 points
respectively. Charlotte Newton and Derricka Person both gave great defensive
effort to the cause. The JV team also picked up a nice team win as well.
Both teams are back in action on Tuesday to play the Vikings of Rogers at
5:45 and 7:30.
February 16,
2010
East Providence 53 Mt. Hope 43
The Townies found a way to pull away twice from visiting Mt. Hope,
despite having 25 team turnovers, to earn a victory tonight. The team played
back and forth with the visitors for most of the first half, before pulling
in front to lead by 10 at halftime (27-17). The team then allowed the
Huskies to get within a bucket 35-33 with about seven minutes to play in the
second. The team then went on an 11-0 run to give themselves some breathing
room down the stretch. Michaela Wiggins led all scorers with 23 points, 15
boards, and 7 steals. Charlotte Newton added 10 for the Townies, while
Amanda Cabral contributed 9 points, 5 assists, and 5 steals. The JV team
picked up a hard fought victory. Both teams are off until Friday, when they
will travel to face Portsmouth, who is currently the only undefeated team in
league play in all of Division II. Game times are 5:15 and
7:00.

Semi-Finals Junior Varsity State Championship
The Junior Varsity squad lost a heartbreaker today in the semi-final
round of the JV State Championship. After getting down 4-0 early, the
Townies led for most of the game, until the Mounties evened the score 25-25
with just over 3 minutes to play. A couple of difficult possessions down the
stretch allowed Mount Saint Charles to secure the victory and move onto the
finals versus Westerly tomorrow afternoon. The girls should be extremely
proud of themselves and the effort they displayed not only today, but for
the entire season. For a team that is comprised of all freshman and just two
sophomores, they have shown great growth and maturity as they continue to be
a vital component of Girls Basketball here at East Providence. Excellent job
ladies!
February 12,
2010
East Providence 59 Middletown 28
The team returned to league action as they traveled to
Middletown to pick up a victory tonight. After a lackluster first half, the
team picked up the intensity in the second, allowing for some reserve
players to pick up some minutes and varsity experience. The team was paced
by Michaela Wiggins with 13 points and 10 boards, while Alyssa Dias added 13
of her own with 6 assists. Shania Connor chipped in 11 points and a career
high 8 steals. The JV team lost, but will play tomorrow in the semi-final
round of the JV State Tournament, against Mount Saint Charles. The game will
take place at Bay View at 1:30.
February 8,
2010
East Providence 65 Westerly 56
The Townies turned in their best performance of the season
to defeat the visiting Bulldogs (15-3), at home on Monday night. The team
opened up a 14 point halftime lead (33-19), using an up-tempo style of play,
and good solid defense. But Westerly would not go down without a fight. The
Townies saw their lead slip to a mere five points with 2:08 left in the
second due to carelessness with the ball, and poor decision making on the
offensive side of the floor. Fortunately, the team hit key free throws down
the stretch to seal a great team victory. The team was led by Michaela
Wiggins who finished with 31 points and 18 boards. Victoria Blaydes also had
a monster night on the glass with 12 boards and 9 points. Charlotte Newton
chipped in 10 points to the cause. The JV team lost, but managed to put
together a better second half effort. Both teams return to league action in
the East, when they travel to Middletown for a 5:15 and 7:00 start.
February 7,
2010
Quarterfinal Round Junior Varsity State Tournament
The JV team earned a first round bye of the tournament on Saturday, and made
it a true "Super Sunday" by defeating Chariho to move onto the
semi-final round next Saturday. The team used stellar defense, and their
ability to push the basketball to give themselves an opportunity to move on.
The Townies will play Mount Saint Charles at 1:30 at Bay View High School.
February 5,
2010
East Providence 52 Warwick Vets 40
The team awoke from it's coma just in time to pull off a late victory
against visiting Warwick Vets. The team shot a season low 19%, and 26 of 40
from the free-throw line. The Hurricanes shot 41%, and forced 18 Townie
turnovers. Both teams were even at halftime 23-23, but the team saw Vets
hold a four to five point margin for most of the second. The Townies got
their first lead of the game with just under 5 minutes to play. The
Hurricanes pulled back to within two, 42-40 with under a minute to go. After
both teams traded empty possessions, Warwick was forced to foul with 13.5
seconds left to play. That's when things got interesting. Amanda Cabral was
fouled, but at the same time a Vets player received a technical foul for
excessive force after the play. Slightly after, Warwick's head coach
received a technical foul. This led to 6 free throws by Amanda Cabral, in
which she made five of them, and sealed the victory for the Townies. Alyssa
Dias led the charge with a career high 15 points, while Amanda Cabral
finished with 10 points and a career high 13 steals. Michaela Wiggins
finished the night with 12 points. The JV team picked up a hard fought
victory, right before they play the first round of their Junior Varsity
State Tournament this Sunday at 4:30 against Chariho at Bay View High
School. The game was also the first annual PINK ZONE game for the program,
in which close to $500 dollars was raised to go directly to breast cancer
awareness and prevention. Coach Solitro would like to thank fans from both
East Providence, as well as Warwick Vets, for their support of an extremely
important cause.
February 2,
2010
East Providence 52 Tolman 51 The
Townies won a thriller tonight down the road in Pawtucket against the host
Tolman Tigers. The team fought back to erase an 11 point halftime deficit to
take their first lead of the night on two Amanda Cabral free throws with
just under 3 minutes to go (51-50). Tolman's point guard, Diandra DaRosa,
was then fouled on the ensuing possession, and hit the back end of the
double bonus free throws. Tied at 51-51, with six seconds left, Charlotte
Newton was fouled and the Townies were also in the double bonus situation.
After missing the first free throw, Newton stepped to the line and hit the
second, which proved to be the game winner. With six seconds left, the
Townies let Leanna Fanning drive the the length of the court, and the team
received the foul call with 2 seconds left in regulation. The first one
rolled out, while the second free throw was good, but was waived off due to
a lane violation. The team in-bounded the ball and held on for the exciting
victory. The team definitely showed more toughness in the second half, and
had better decision making offensively. Michaela Wiggins paced the Townies
with 26 points, 15 boards and 5 steals. Amanda Cabral had 8 points and 8
assists, while Newton and Derricka Person had 5 a piece. The Townies play
again this Friday at home in their first annual Pink Zone game. Please make
every effort to attend, and wear pink to show your support to an extremely
important cause. Game times are 5:45/7:30.
PINK ZONE GAME SET! The
team's first annual Pink Zone game is set for this Friday, February 5th
against visiting Warwick Vets. We are asking that all fans for that evening
wear something pink to show their support. There will be a 50/50 raffle. The
money generated will be donated to Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund to help with
Breast Cancer Awareness and Prevention. Please make every effort to attend
and support an extremely worthy cause.

East Providence 47 Shea 22
The Townies followed one of their best performances of the season on
Tuesday night, with one of their worst tonight. At times it looked like it
was a chore for the team to go out and make plays. The team's mental focus
was nowhere to be found, and physically looked like they were just going
through the motions in the first half. The team played with a little
more desire and passion in the second half after shaking off some pre-game
issues that caused some distraction early on. Alyssa Dias led the team with
11 points while Meghan Conheeny and Amanda Cabral added 8 points a piece.
The Townies play next on Tuesday, when they will face the Central Division
leader Tolman High School in a crossover contest in Pawtucket. Game times
are 5:15/7:00.
January 26,
2010
East Providence 67 Pilgrim 55
The team traveled to Pilgrim to face the high scoring Patriots of the
Central Division. After opening up a 21-7 lead, the Townies took their foot
off the gas and allowed the home team to close to within 8 at the break.
After trading baskets for most of the second, the Townies then saw their
lead slip to just three, 54-51 at the four minute mark. Fortunately, they
made some big stops down the stretch, hit some key shots, and sealed the
victory with free-throws in the closing minutes. This is the highest
offensive output for the team this season, which featured four Townies in
double-digit scoring. Michaela Wiggins led the charge with 21 points, 15
rebounds, and 5 steals. Amanda Cabral had a great overall game, with 17
points and 6 assists. Alyssa Dias played her best game of the year finishing
with 13 points, and holding her player to just 3 points offensively.
Charlotte Newton just missed the double-double mark with 10 points and 9
boards, while Victoria Blaydes had a monster night on the glass finishing
with 13 rebounds. The JV team picked up a nice victory after a go-ahead 3
point shot by Mary Monagle, with just over a minute to go. She then sealed
the victory with 2 free-throws that came after an intentional foul. Varsity
will play at home against Shea at 7:00, this Friday evening. There will be
no junior varsity game.
January 21,
2010
East Providence 56 Chariho 49
The Townies fought back from an 11 point halftime deficit to defeat
the Chargers in a non-league contest tonight. The Townies allowed Chariho to
have their way with them underneath in the first half, seeing the forward
duo of Mary Toth and Krista Trenholm score a combined 26 of Chariho's 34
points during the first 16 minutes of play. The Townies had a complete turn
around in the second half, which featured one of their best defensive
efforts of the season, holding the visitors to just 15 second half points.
Charlotte Newton and Victoria Blaydes gave a great effort to the cause,
holding those same two players to a combined 12 points in the second. Guards
Alyssa Dias and Amanda Cabral did a nice job controlling the tempo of the
game both offensively and defensively. Amanda also had 13 points, 7 assists,
and 6 steals. Michaela Wiggins had a game high 28 points (19 in the 2nd
half), 14 boards, and 6 steals of her own. Overall, the team showed a lot of
fight and character to earn the victory tonight. The team is off until next
Tuesday when they will travel to Pilgrim to face the Patriots, who have one
of the highest scoring outputs per game in the league. Game times are 5:15
and 7:00.
January 20,
2010
East Providence 50 Central 14
The Townies traveled to Central and earned a crossover
victory against the host Knights. The team was paced by Michaela Wiggins who
had 12 points and 9 boards. Derricka Person chipped in 8 points off the
bench, while Alyssa Dias chipped in 6 points, 4 assists, and 5 steals. The
team doesn't have much time to rest as they will host Chariho tomorrow night
at 6:30. There will once again be no JV game and please note the early start
time.
January 15, 2010
East Providence 56 Moses Brown 34 The Townies
finally get a total team effort tonight as they defeated visiting Moses
Brown in the first of six crossover games scheduled against the Central
division. Both teams played back and forth for the entire first half, until
the team turned up its defensive intensity with over a minute to go, and
extended their lead to 31-24 at the break. The Townies kept up their
defensive pressure holding the Quakers to just ten second half points.
Amanda Cabral finished the night with a career high 11 steals to go along
with her 11 points. Victoria Blaydes did a great job controlling Moses
Browns six foot center, holding her to only 3 second half points. Michaela
Wiggins finished the evening with a double-double of her own, with 17 points
and 16 rebounds. The JV team also got a nice team win fighting back
from a double digit deficit at the half, and winning 45-35. Mary Monagle led
the team with 20 points. The Varsity will play next on Wednesday at Central.
Game time is 4:15. There will be no JV game.
January 13, 2010
Tiverton 62 East Providence 57 The
team turned in their most dismal defensive performance of the season tonight
against the host Tigers. They allowed the William sisters to combine for 45
points on the evening, with no answer for their ability to attack the
basket. Whether the Townies switched to a zone, or their normally reliable
man-to-man, their play lacked effort and determination when it came to
getting timely stops. Add that to 29% shooting, 20 missed free-throws, and
20 turnovers, and your not going to beat anyone. The team was led once again
by captain Michaela Wiggins who continues to give the team much needed
leadership at a time where their youth is trying to mature quickly.
Wiggins finished the night with 24 points, 10 boards, and 5 steals. The team
also got a spark from junior Derricka Person off the bench, finishing the
evening with 11 points, while fellow junior Charlotte Newton finished the
night with a season high 16 points. After a good first half effort, the JV
team dropped their game with a lackluster effort in the second. The entire
team has to begin to play with more passion and urgency as they begin the
second half of their season. Hopefully, they are able to find it within
themselves as they begin their crossover schedule this Friday against
visiting Moses Brown. Note the early start time. Game times are 5:15 and
7:00.
January 8, 2010
East Providence 45 Rogers 38
The Townies traveled to Rogers and earned an important division
victory against a fast and athletic Viking team. Each member of the team
contributed to the victory tonight. The team led at halftime 25-16, and
opened up their lead to 15 at about the 6:00 minute mark in the second half,
before Rogers went on a 10-0 run to cut the lead to five with just under
three to play. Fortunately, the Townies did just enough down the stretch to
hold on for the victory. The Townies were led by Michaela Wiggins'
game high 19 points and impressive 23 boards. Sophomore guard Alyssa Dias
played a well rounded game, while filling in for an absent Amanda Cabral.
Dias finished the night with 12 points. The team did once again struggle
protecting the ball, finishing with 28 team turnovers. The JV team picked up
a good victory with Mary Monagle finishing the night with 25 points. Both
teams return to action Wednesday night when they will travel to division
rival Tiverton to face the Tigers. Game times are 5:15 and 7:00.
January 6, 2010
Portsmouth 54 East Providence
48 The
Townies lost a hard fought battle tonight against last season's division
winner, Portsmouth. The team was without the services of senior starting
point guard, Amanda Cabral, and reserve forward Derricka Person, which
caused the team to struggle to get into any rhythm offensively from the half
court. The Patriots used their speed and athleticism to force the team into
28 turnovers, and at times abandon the game plan. Michaela Wiggins played
extremely tough and with a purpose, as she led all scorers with 16 points
and 15 boards. Freshman sister Taylor Wiggins came in off the bench and gave
great minutes finishing the night with 8 points. Sophomore guard Alyssa Dias
was the only other Townie in double digits finishing the night with 10
points. The team has to regroup quickly as they have to travel to Rogers
this upcoming Friday for another pivotal league game against a very good
Viking team. Game times are 5:45 and 7:30.
December 30,
2009
East Providence 55 Classical 40
The Townies get back on track with a road victory at Classical. After
a lack luster 1st half, Classical led by a score of 27-25 at the break. The
team turned up the defensive intensity in the second half and held the
Purple to just 13 second half points. The team continues to get major
contributions from Jr. captain Michaela Wiggins who had a game high 28
points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Shania Connor gave the Townies a much
needed spark off the bench with 11 points (9 in the second half). The
JV team picked up a win after a long break from game play. Both teams are
off until next Wednesday when the play last season's division winner
Portsmouth High School at home. Game times are 5:45 and 7:30. Coach Solitro
and the Girls Basketball Program would like to wish members of the community
a Happy and Healthy New Year.
December 28,
2009
Smithfield 57 East Providence 45
The Townies let the defensive pressure of the Sentinels get the
better of them tonight. Smithfield forced the team to commit 24 turnovers,
and shot a woeful 28%. Add that to 10 missed lay-ups and 19 of 34 from the
free-throw line and you have yourself a recipe for a loss. Michaela Wiggins
led the team with 16 points. Junior forward Victoria Blaydes played well
with a double double, 11 points and 11 rebounds. The loss is the first for
the Townies on the young season, but the team gets a chance to redeem
themselves quickly with another non-league contest against D1 Classical at
their place on Wednesday. Game times are 12/1:30.
December 27,
2009
East Providence 42 North Providence 33
The Townies are very fortunate to pull out a victory tonight. In a
game filled with mental mistakes and sloppy play, the team led from
beginning to end, and now have an opportunity to face Smithfield in the
winners bracket of the two day tournament, held by the Rhode Island Board of
Officials. The team shot a dismal 33%, but even more scary was the 33
turnovers the team committed. Charlotte Newton continues her solid play with
15 points, while fellow junior Michaela Wiggins added 18 of her own to go
along with 14 boards. The second game is scheduled for Monday, December 28th
at 7:30. The team needs to be more mentally prepared as Smithfield looks to
be a top contender in Division II this season.
December 22,
2009
East Providence 68 Mt. Hope 53
The Townies got a huge road victory tonight defeating the Huskies of
Mt. Hope. After jumping out to a 20-5 lead, the team took their foot off the
gas and allowed the Huskies to climb back and make it a 23-20 ballgame, at
the three minute mark of the first. The Townies then used a mini-run of
their own to push their lead to seven (35-28) at the break. The second half
saw the Townies play their best half of basketball on the young season. The
team was lead by Michaela Wiggins and her career high 32 points, and 13
boards. Charlotte Newton played her best game to date, recording 14 points
and 9 rebounds. Amanda Cabral chipped in 12 points. Junior Derricka Person
gave the team a spark with numerous hustle plays on both the offensive and
defensive side of the ball. The Townies JV squad dropped their game 44-36.
The Varsity team will next play in the annual Smithfield Christmas
Tournament beginning this upcoming Sunday. The team will play North
Providence in the opening round beginning at 7:30 pm at Smithfield High
School.
December 16,
2009
East Providence 46 East Greenwich
37
After a sub-par performance the Townies earned
a victory over the visiting Avengers. The team was out of sync the entire
evening, turning the ball over 22 times while shooting a dismal 24% from the
field. The Townies did have a bright spot defensively, by grabbing 18 team
steals. Michaela Wiggins picked up a double-double grabbing 12 boards to go
along with her 22 points. Amanda Cabral chipped in 13 points with six
assists. The team is going to have to get back to work as they prepare for
an early season showdown at Mt. Hope next Tuesday night. The JV team lost
another hard fought battle that once again came down to the wire. Mary
Monagle led all scorers with 12 points.
December 14,
2009
East Providence 61 Middletown 39
After a sluggish first eight minutes of play, the Townies turned up the
defensive pressure and opened up a 39-16 halftime lead. The team has to find
a way to start off the game with the intensity and determination they
displayed late in the first half. The Townies finished with a total of 18
team steals. Michaela Wiggins lead the charge with 20 points and 12
rebounds. Fellow captain Amanda Cabral had 16 points to go along with 4
assists. Charlotte Newton chipped in 9 points, while freshman Taylor Wiggins
contributed 8 of her own. The JV team lost a hard fought battle 37-34 but
showed great character fighting back from an eight point deficit at the 4
minute mark. Both teams resume play this Wednesday, when they will face
visiting East Greenwich in a non-league contest.

December 10, 2009
East Providence 50 St. Raphael 44
The Townies earned a team victory tonight by getting contributions
from every player on the floor. The team was lead by junior Michaela
Wiggins 15 points and 15 rebounds. Lone senior Amanda Cabral pushed for an
up-tempo style of play and added 14 points to the cause. Victoria Blaydes
added 8 points, 12 rebounds and 5 steals in her first game starting for
the Townies. Junior Charlotte Newton turned in a terrific defensive
performance to go along with her 8 points. The team used their speed and
athletic ability to open up a 12 point halftime lead (31-19), only to see
the Saints chip away in the 2nd to close the lead to six (48-42), with
less than four minutes to go. Fortunately, the team made some key plays
down the stretch to prevent the visitors from ruining opening night. The
JV team turned in a solid overall performance with a 35-16 victory. Both
teams return to action with their first league game against visiting
Middletown this upcoming Monday, December 14th.
Townies Set for Season Opener. The
team will begin the 2009-2010 season with a non-league Injury Fund game
against visiting St. Rafael Academy on Thursday, December 10th. The JV team will
start the night off at 5:45, followed by the Varsity at 7:30. The Team
begins league play Monday, December 14th when they will face the visiting
Islanders of Middletown.
Season Preview: The
Townies will once again compete in a very competitive Eastern Division. They
must contend with the likes of Tiverton, Middletown, Mt. Hope, newly added
Rogers High School, and last season's Division winners, Portsmouth High
School. The team returns many
key players from last season, which saw the Townies finish with a 16-7
overall record, 12-5 in the division, and a quarterfinal appearance in the
State Tournament. The team returns three starters from last season. Senior
captain Amanda Cabral, looks to control an up-tempo
style of play from the point guard position, for the third season in a row.
Amanda looks to continue to establish herself as a true defensive threat
for opposing guards. Junior Captain Michaela Wiggins led the team
last season in scoring and rebounding, and will be once again looked upon to
be a presence in the paint. Junior Charlotte Newton is looking to make the
transition from the forward spot to a shooting guard. Coming of an
impressive summer league performance, Charlotte will play a pivotal role
as her versatility allows her to take on many different roles both
offensively and defensively. Victoria Blaydes, also coming off an
impressive summer performance, looks to help the team with some much
needed height by starting as the opposite forward for the Townies. Blaydes
has become more aggressive on both ends of the floor, and her athletic
ability will bring a lot to team, as they try to continue to play an
up-tempo style of basketball. With the departure of two senior guards last
season, the team is looking to fill those vacancies with juniors Meghan
Conheeny and Derricka Person, and sophomores Alyssa Dias and Shania
Connor. Sophomore Bianca Vails looks to provide depth at the forward
spot. The team also welcomes three freshmen with great potential, Taylor
Wiggins, Izzy Newton, as well as Mary Monagle. The team looks to improve defensively, as they will utilize
different defensive looks to keep the opposition out of rhythm. The key to
the Townies success is going to be leadership, as well as gaining an
overall confidence in themselves.
