JESSE JOY SELECTED AS HOBEY BAKER RECIPIENT FROM EPHS
Senior captain Jesse Joy has been recognized as the East Providence High School Hobey Baker Character Award winner.  Joy has been recognized at the RI General Assembly and at the Providence Bruins game. The award goes to the player that best represents the hard work, leadership, character, and sportsmanship demonstrated by the great Hobey Baker as a collegiate hockey player.

TOWNIES TROUNCE COUGARS-MISS RIIL PLAYOFFS
East Providence played another must win game and came through with flying colors, but in the end they fell short of gaining a berth in the RIIL playoffs.  Nick Alix, Jesse Joy, and Scott Lincoln all scored twice and Mitchell Palumbo and Jacob Nyzio chipped in with one a piece as the Townies dominated North Providence Saturday night at Smithfield.  The win gave the Townies a winning season at 9-8-1 but they finished behind PCD (8-9-1) based on PCD earning two points for two overtime losses and the Knights taking the season series from the Townies.
 


Joy, Hall, Lincoln, and Alix selected as "All-Division" players by the coaches.
The Townies placed four on the Divsion III Central All Divison teams this week.  Jesse Joy was chosen by the coaches as a first team player while James Hall was selected to the second team.  Nick Alix and Scott Lincoln were both chosen as third team players. Congratulations to each player on a fine season.

TOWNIES KEEP PLAYOFF DRIVE ALIVE
Jesse Joy, D.J. Donahue, and Scott Lincoln (short handed) all found the back of the net as East Providence dominated Mt. Hope in what was a must win game at Lynch Arena Saturday night.  The Townies played a spirited 36 minutes and bottled up a potent Husky offense limiting them to 20 shots as Emily Klucznik picked up her second shut out of the year.  Nick Alix played a superb all around game, including a pretty set up pass on D.J. Donahue's goal, to give the Townies a 2-0 cushion half way through the third period.  The Townies continued their 'senior night" tradition by honoring seniors Steve Moravec, Jesse Joy and Nick Alix along with their parents during pre-game ceremonies.  

February 13  Warwick Vets 5  East Providence 1

Hurricanes put Townie playoff hopes in jeopardy
East Providence put itself in a win or go home position by losing to Warwick Vets 5-1 on Friday night at Warburton Arena.  The Townies could only manage a James Hall tally and allowed five goals on only 17 Hurricane shots.  East Providence will play a must win game against Mount Hope on Saturday, Feb. 21, at Lynch Arena to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Townies tame Panthers, pull record even
Nick Alix scored twice, including a short handed goal in the third period, while Mitch Palumbo and Peter Saunders scored one goal each as the Townies hung on to their playoff hopes with a gut wrenching 5-4 win at Smithfield.  Despite out shooting Johnston 39-21, East Providence could not put the feisty Panthers away despite two different two goal leads. The Townies stand at 7-7-1 in league play and are battling for the eighth and final playoff spot in Division III.

KNIGHTS HAVE TOWNIES' NUMBER
East Providence carried the play most of the night but in the end it was Providence Country Day that came away with a hard fought, 3-2 win at Lynch Arena on Saturday night.  Harrison Jones and Nick Alix accounted for the Townies' offense and despite a two minute flurry at the end of the third period where the Townies peppered PCD with a borage of shots they couldn't find the back of the net and fell one game under .500 for the season.

Joy's hat trick leads Townies past Spartans
Senior captain Jesse Joy notched his first career hat trick on Friday night at Lynch Arena as the Townies upended Scituate 7-1. James Hall added two goals for the Townies while Nick Alix and Scott Lincoln had one each.  Mitch Palumbo was solid all night on the Townie blue line and Emily Klucznik and Shayne Labao combined to stop 18 Spartan shots.

TOWNIES GRAB 1 POINT OUT OF WILD WEEKEND
East Providence relinquished a 4-1 first period lead on Saturday night at Boss Arena and was out scored 7-2 in the second and third periods by league leading and defending state champions Narragansett.  The Townies got goals from Nick Alix (2), James Hall, Scott Lincoln, Nick Costello, and Ryan Barry.

On Sunday afternoon the Townies dominated play against Cranston East from start to finish and out shot the Thunderbolt 49 to 19, including a 7-0 shot advantage in the overtime period, but could only manage 2 James Hall goals and settled for a 2-2 tie.  The Townies league record stands at 5-6-1 and they are in a battle for the eighth and final playoff spot in Division III.

PROUT OUT MUSCLES TOWNIES
East Providence was physically outplayed Saturday night at the West Warwick Civic Center by a Prout team that previously defeated the Townies 6-1 in the Boss Holiday Classic.  The Townies' only offense came from James Hall on an a follow up to his own shot late in the third period. Townie defenders struggled with the bigger Prout forwards all evening and suffered numerous d-zone breakdowns.

TOWNIES TAKE THE WIND OUT OF HURRICANES
East Providence played its best all around game to date and defeated first place Warwick Veterans High School Saturday night at Lynch Arena.  D.J. Donahue, Scott Lincoln, James Hall, and Nick Costello all scored and freshman Jacob Nyzio chipped in with three assists as East Providence finished the first half of league play with a 5-4 record.  John Andrews was solid between the pipes turning back fifteen Hurricane shots for the win.

ast Providence held a 2-1 lead going into the third period Friday night but could not hold on and suffered a disappointing loss to Middletown.  James Hall accounted for both Townie goals but it was not enough to overcome a weak Townie effort in their own end as their record stands at an even 4-4 in league play.

TOWNIES' OFFENSE CONTINUES TO IMPROVE, WIZARDS THE LATEST VICTIMS
East Providence backed up an eight goal outburst against St. Rays on Tuesday with a five goal performance Friday night against West Warwick at Lynch Arena.  D.J. Donahue, Mitch Palumbo, Jesse Joy, Nick Alix, and Nick Costello all lit the lamp as the Townies dominated play from start to finish.  Emily Klucznik turned back 19 shots and earned her first career shut out while junior Scott Lincoln continued his strong play by chipping in with two assists.  East Providence moves into second place in Division III Central with the win and will face off against Middletown next Friday night at home.

Lincoln leads Townies past Saints
Scott Lincoln recorded a hat trick on Tuesday night, in the consolation game of the Boss Holiday Classic at URI, to lead the Townies past Saint Rays 8-7 in a hard fought victory.  The Townies battled back from a 5-2 deficit and won in a shootout when James Hall made a beautiful move and found the top corner on the Townies' first attempt while Townie net minder Emily Klucznik shut the door on all three Saints' attempts to secure the victory.  The Townies got goals from Mitch Palumbo, Alec D'Amico, Jacob Nyzio, and James Hall in a quality team effort that included strong performances by Keith Marquis, Rodger Lincoln, Ryan Barry, Nick Alix, and Jesse Joy.  The Townies will host West Warwick at Lynch Arena Friday night at 9pm.

Boss Holiday Classic Results- Dec. 29
Prout 6 East Providence 1-
James Hall accounted for the only Townie goal as East Providence put forth an uninspired effort in all aspects of the game.  The Townies will face the loser of the Saint Rays-South Kingstown game Tuesday night at Boss Arena at 6:30pm.

Townies sink Vikings
East Providence got goals from Jesse Joy, Rodger Lincoln, and Peter Saunders as they defeated Rogers High School Saturday night at Lynch Arena 3-2.  Jacob Nyzio assisted on two goals and Scott Lincoln was the star of the game with a tremendous effort on the Townies' blue line.  Emily Klucznik picked up the win in goal with 23 saves.

December 20, 2008  North Smithfield 2  East Providence 1
Townies fall short to Northmen

East Providence played a solid all around game but came up short Friday night against North Smithfield at the RI Sports Center.  The Townies could manage only one goal, a Scott Lincoln slap shot from the point, despite out shooting the Northmen 28-21.  East Providence will resume divisional play on December 27th at Lynch Arena versus Rogers.

Townies edge Wizards

East Providence got goals from Jesse Joy and Scott Lincoln Saturday night as they defeated West Warwick 2-1.  The Townies' scoring woes continue as they could only muster two tallies despite 36 shots.  Ryan Barry and Harrison Jones each picked up an assist and Nick Costello played a solid all around game for the Townies.

Villanovans skate past Townies

Despite holding a 2-1 advantage in shots and carrying the play for most of the first two periods, East Providence could not score and suffered from multiple defensive breakdowns en route to a 4-0 loss to Woonsocket Saturday night at Lynch Arena in Pawtucket.  The Townies will try to even their league record at 2-2 Saturday night in West Warwick.

Knights out skate Townies
East Providence put forth a lackluster effort Saturday night and fell to Providence Country Day 4-1 at Lynch Arena.  Jesse Joy accounted for the only Townie goal of the night as PCD jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead and never looked back.

TOWNIES JOLT BOLT FOR SEASON OPENING WIN

East Providence got goals from James Hall, Scott Lincoln, D.J. Donahue, and Nick Alix en route to a 4-1 win over Cranston East Friday night at Lynch Arena in Pawtucket. Emily Klucznik was stellar between the pipes turning back 20 Cranston East shots including a break away in the third period.  The Townies enjoyed a 2-1 shot advantage and controlled play from start to finish.

TOWNIES OPEN SEASON WITH SOLID EFFORT IN INJURY FUND CONTESTS

Josh Rocha and Jacob Nyzio each scored and John Andrews was solid between the pipes as East Providence skated to a 0-0 tie with Cranston East and defeated PCD 2-1 in the Injury Fund round robin at the RI Sports Center Saturday afternoon.  Andrews turned back 12 shots and the Townies played a spirited 40 minutes of hockey to kick off the 2008-09 campaign.
