Townies Fall to Bolt Sextet, Playoff Race Tightens
The Cranston East Hockey Team defeated the Townies 3-1 Saturday night at Cranston Veterans Memorial Ice Rink on Cranston's Senior Night. Despite the setback, the Townies still control the second seed and a first round bye.
The Townies put forth a lackadaisical effort in the opening period failing to capitalize on three power plays and allowing Cranston to hang around. The first period ended in a scoreless tie.
At the three minute mark of the second period, the Bolt drew first blood, a high rising shot which eluded Freshman Goaltender, Marc LaValley and putting the home team up 1-0. Two minutes later the Townies finally capitalized on their fifth power play of the evening and tying the score at 1 apiece, Troy Derrick banged home a loose puck in the crease off a Ryan Barry feed. That is how the score would remain at the intermission. Through two periods the townies outshot the Bolt 18-12. That would change in the third.
Two minutes into the third Cranston would go up 2-1 on a shot from the right circle which appeared to handcuff LaValley. Three minutes later Cranston added an insurance goal just 3 seconds after going on the Power Play. The Bolt outshot the Townies 10-3 in the third period and 22-21 for the game.
The Townies look to get back on track Monday February 20th with a noon start in Burrillville vs the last place Woonsocket Villa Novans.
The Townies Senior Night will be Friday February 24th at 9:30pm vs Cranston East, where they will be looking to avenge this evening's loss.
The Townies close the regular season Saturday February 25th at Brother Adelard Arena on the campus of Mount Saint Charles Academy at 7:30pm vs East Bay rival, Mount Hope.
