Townies Hockey Team Defeats Warwick Vets, Improves to 10-2 in League Play
The Townies Hockey Team defeated Warwick Vets 6-0 Saturday evening at Warburton Arena in Warwick. Warwick has lost half their roster since opening day due to injuries and transfers, yet comes out every night and battles the opposition hard. Saturday night was no different, as the Canes, skating with less than two full lines, impressed the Townies faithful with their grit and determination.
Midway through the first period, Freshmen Jared Estrella teamed up with classmate Ryan Costa to put the Townies up 1-0.
The Townies went to work at the five minute mark of the second period, tallying three goals in a span of just 39 seconds. Paul Lukas tallied the second Townies goals at 5:09. Ryan Barry and Keith Marquis assisted. Just six seconds later Barry and Marquis got together to put the Townies up 3-0. At 5:48 Estrella notched his second goal of the evening, an unassisted goal at 5:48.
At 5:37 of the third period, Freshman Ryan Galvao recorded his first high school goal, a deflection of a matt Hall shot from the point, Marquis also assisted.
Freshman Marc LaValley and Seniors Shawn Medeiros and Sarah Duarte combined in net for the shutout.
The Townies next skate Saturday February 18th at 6:10 at Cranston Veterans Memorial Ice Rink against the surging Cranston East Thunderbolts in a game with playoff implications for both teams.
