with two hits including
a line-drive homerun.
Meg Brady making her
return to the Townie
Softball Team belted a
solo homerun as well.
Ashley Stringfellow
pitched well allowing
one hit in four innings
of work. Much work to
be done, but a good
start nonetheless. |
April 3
Pilgrim W 6-5 (9inn) |

Medeiros, Marcia
Huftalen, and Meaghan
Brady helped EP score

later date in its
entirety. |

ball and Ashley

the 7th to preserve the
shutout for the
Townies. Katrina
Finona, making her
Townie debut, hit two
very long triples
driving in one run for
EP. Jocelyn Nestell had
an RBI single in the
first inning. Meg Brady
(2 RBI), Andrea Medeiros
(bunt hit), and Marcia
Huftalen all contributed
in the four run first.
An excellent team win as
the bench led by Kelly
Deschenes and Ciara
Charbonneau helped EP to
the solid win. |
April 13
Middletown |

April 16
East Greenwich
|
W 6-0 |
Finest game played to
date. The pitching,
defense and hitting were
the best yet. Steph
Normand went 7 innings
allowing only 2 hits
and 0 BB's. The
offensive stars were
Marcia Huftalen and
Meaghan Brady.

a torrid start had two

1 with 3 walks an RBI
and a stolen base.
Overall, 7 out of the 9
starters had at least
one hit against one of
the top pitchers' in the
state. |
April 17
Barrington |
W 9-3 |
A good win despite less
intensity. EP took
advantage of 3 Eagle
errors en route to the
9-3 win. Excellent
offensive contributions
came from Ashley
Stringfellow, who also
pitched a fine game,
Katie Deschenes, Marcia
Huftalen, Meaghan Brady
and Katrina Finona.
String allowed 1 earned
run and walked none.
Finona and Huftalen hit

third game of the
vacation by beating an
excellent Chariho team
at Chariho H.S.

victory. Katrina Finona
had a clutch two out
bases loaded hit to
drive in the winning
runs in the top of the

character and
determination in winning
this early key match-up
with a talented and well
coached Charger team. |
April 23
N.Kingstown
|
L 7-4 |
After leading 4-1
through four innings of
play, the undefeated
Townies lost their
composure and allowed
six runs in the last two
innings to a focused
North Kingstown team.
The Skippers took
advantage of four errors
and ran all over EP. EP
which allowed only 10
runs in their previous
six contests were their
own worst enemy. North
Kingstown wanted the
game more from the start
and fully earned their
fifth victory. EP still
controls first place by
one game but needs to
rebound against the West
Warwick Wizards on April
25. Andrea Medeiros
made her birthday one to
remember going 3 for 3
at the plate. Ashley
Stringfellow added three
hits, Jocelyn Nestell
contributed two hits and
Katrina Finona drilled
an RBI double in the
second inning. |
April 25

centerfield in the sixth
inning to lead the
Townies to victory. Ali
Birkes had a clutch
pinch hit in the fifth
inning scoring Ashley
Stringfellow to take a
1-0 lead in the fifth
inning. Andrea Medeiros
and Meg Brady both had
two hits for EP.
Stringfellow pitched a
gutsy game to earn the
victory. She struck out
8 Bulldogs and walked
only one batter. String
upped her record to 3-1
on the season. |
May 3
S.Kingstown
|
W 6-4 |
Consecutive hits by
Ashley Stringfellow,
Katie Deschenes, Jillian
Berg and Andrea Medeiros
followed by Marcia
Huftalen's sac fly
enabled the Townies to
score three runs in the
fourth to take a 5-2
lead. Meg Brady's two
out, two run single
allowed EP to draw first
blood against the
Rebels. Stringfellow
provided 3 2/3 innings
of excellent relief to
help keep SK in check
for the rest of the
game. |
May 5
Pilgrim |
W 12-2 |
EP's most impressive win
yet!! In a battle for
first place, the Townies
bats put the game away

two-run homerun, a
two-run double and a run

outing at the plate to
date. She was 3-4 with
4 RBI including a couple
of clutch two out
singles. Andrea
Medeiros, Marcia
Huftalen and Ashley
Stringfellow all
contributed two hits
each. String pitched a
four hitter allowing one
earned run against a
very potent Patriot
offense. Her record
improved to 5-1.
Marissa Savastano and
Meg Brady turned a
conventional 6-4-3
double play int he
second inning to bolster
the Townie D. |
May 7
E.Greenwich
|
W 6-0 |
Stephanie Normand
quieted the bats of a
very "talkative" East
Greenwich team yesterday
allowing only one
infield hit after 6 2/3
innings of no-hit ball.
Steph struck out 11 and
walked only two while
fielding her position
very well. Marcia
Huftalen, Katrina
Finona, and Ashley
Stringfellow all had run
scoring infield singles
and Meaghan Brady added
an RBI groundout in the
Townies four run
fourth. Congratulations
to Jocelyn Nestell on
being named Athlete of
the Week for the
Pawtucket Times. |
May 9
Portsmouth |
W 13-6 |
EP defeated Portsmouth
13-6 despite playing
very lethargicly. It
took the Patriots to
take a 3-2 lead before
the Townies decided to
show up. Marcia
Huftalen had 3 hits,
Jocelyn Nestell, Andrea
Medeiros, and Jill Berg
all contributed with two
hits each. Stephanie
Normand picked up the
victory as she relieved
Ashley Stringfellow in
the 5th inning. Steph
is now 7-0 on the
season. Some sloppy
play early in the game
forced the 12-1 Townies
to play catch up
softball in the third
inning. |
May 11
Middletown |
W 11-0 |
Steph Normand threw a
one hit shutout with six
K's in five innings
pitched against the
Islanders. Katrina
Finona hit a long
homerun to left
centerfield in the
bottom of the second
inning and added a run
scoring single in the 8-
run fifth inning.
Ashley Stringfellow went
2-2, and Jocelyn Nestell
added a two run double
in the 5th inning to
finish the game. The
Townies played with
intensity and desire
throughout the whole
game. They will need
the same intensity as
they face three tough
teams in Barrington,
Chariho and North
Kingstown this week. |
May 15
Barrington |
W 4-2 |
Ashley Stringfellow
provided outstanding
relief pitching to help
keep a much improved
Barrington team in check
for the last 2 2/3
innings. Katrina Finona
doubled in Andrea
Medeiros and Marcia
Huftalen with what
proved to be the game
winning RBI in the 3rd
inning. Jocelyn Nestell
and Medeiros both had
two hits each. The game
marked the first of
three important contests
this week. Medeiros
also saved two runs with
a great running catch in
the fourth inning. |
May 17
Chariho |
L 2-0 |
Chariho handed EP its
second defeat of the
season behind the
pitching of Jen Paulson.
The Chargers took
advantage of four Townie
errors and made the most
of their 3 hits. EP was
lead offensively by
Ashley Stringfellow who
went 3 for 3 at the
plate. Katie Deschenes
got the other hit for
the Townies. Steph
Normand was the tough
luck loser. Normand
lost her first varsity
game ever. She is now
16-1 in her career. |
May 19
N.Kingstown
|
W 7-2 |
The Townies avenged
their first loss of the
season by defeating the
Skippers 7-2 at Ryan
Park. Jocelyn Nestell
was 4 for 4, Katrina
Finona went 2 for 3 with
a triple and 2 RBI,
while Jillian Berg was
2-4 with a double and 2
RBI. Ashley
Stringfellow improved to
7-1 on the year. She
had excellent control,
spotting pitches against
a very good North team
in a playoff-like
setting. Andrea
Medeiros made a few
excellent catches in
centerfield. |
May 21
West Warwick
|
L 5-3 |
A lackluster performance
against a good hitting
West Warwick team
caused the Townies to
drop two out of their
last three games. EP
also squandered an
opportunity to clinch at
least a tie for the
division championship
(Pilgrim 2000??).
Jocelyn Nestell had two
of the five hits for the
Townies. |
May 25
Westerly |
W 4-3 |
Ashley Stringfellow's
two out, two run single
helped EP get past
second place Westerly
and allowed the Townies
to capture the Division
I-South regular season
championship.
Stringfellow and
Stephanie Normand
allowed only one earned
run in 7 innings of
work. The Townies are
now 16-3 and face South
Kingstown on Senior Day
(5/29). Co-captain
Marcia Huftalen also
added two hits for EP.
Normand, Jocelyn Nestell
and Huftalen turned a
1-2-3 double play to end
the game and get out of
a tough jam. |
May 29
S.Kingstown
|
W 5-0 |
Steph Normand threw a
one hitter as the
Townies upped their
record to a league
leading 17-3 on Senior
Day 2001. Jocelyn
Nestell went 3-4 with an
RBI and Marcia Huftalen
was 2-4 with 2 RBI.
Excellent defense was
turned in by Marissa
Savastano, Meg Brady,
Marcia Huftalen and
Ashley Stringfellow.
The Townies now wait to
find out who they play
in the first round of
the state playoffs. |

Playoffs |

|
June 3
Portsmouth |
L 4-3 |
The Townies deserved a
better fate. After
winning the southern
division title with a
17-3 record and the #1
seed in the state, EP
was ousted from the
playoffs by Portsmouth.
The Townies had defeated
the Patriots twice
during the regular
season by scores of 6-0
and 13-6 but didn't hit
when it counted. EP
which boasts a team
average of .300 fell
victim to good pitching
and a questionable
playoff format. The EP
seniors will be sorely
missed. Ashley
Stringfellow (2hits),
Marcia Huftalen, Meaghan
Brady, Camely Machado
and Katie Deschenes-
Thank You!! |
