Summary |
March 25
@ BayView
(Scrimmage) |
|
The 2002 Townies
looked sharp in
their scrimmage
debut. Kelly
Deschenes, Ciara
Charbonneau, Katrina
Finona and Andrea
Medeiros led the
offensive attack.
The team hit the
ball very well and
displayed very
aggressive
baserunning. The
pitching trio of
Stephanie Normand,
Amanda Shattuck and
Danielle Normand was
very solid keeping
the BayView
baserunners to a
minimum. Overall, it
was an excellent
start for the
Townies with much
work to be done.. |
March 28
Cumberland
(Scrimmage) |
|
Amanda Shattuck and
Stephanie Normand
combined to throw 6
shutout innings.
However, the Townies
lack of hitting
coupled with a very
scrappy Cumberland
team made for a very
competitive
scrimmage. EP had
only two hits in the
game but made the
most of the base
runners given to
them. The Townie
defense also played
well. |
March 30
@Moses Brown
(Scrimmage) |
|
The bats came
alive! Pitchers
Steph Normand,
Amanda Shattuck, and
Danielle Normand
combined to throw a
shutout. Big
hitters on the day
were Jill Berg,
Ciara Charbonneau,
Steph Normand,
Katrina Finona, and
Andrea Medeiros
among others. Some
little defensive
lapses that need
correcting with East
Greenwich waiting on
Monday. |
April 1
@ East Greenwich
|
W 6-0 |
Captain Stephanie
Normand was
outstanding in the
Townies debut.
Normand tossed a one
hitter, added 11
strikeouts and
walked none. The
offense, which was
dead for five
innings came alive
adding 2 runs in the
sixth and 3 runs in
the seventh. Jill
Berg went 3-4 with
two doubles and two
RBI, Katrina Finona
was 2-4 with two
doubles and two RBI
and Ciara
Charbonneau was the
catalyst as she
walked three times
and stole two
bases. An
outstanding
defensive
performance was
turned in by
sophomore shortstop
Marissa Savastano.
Overall a solid
opening for EP. |
April 3
@ Portsmouth
|
W 10-1 |
Freshman Amanda
Shattuck,
celebrating her 15th
birthday, threw five
excellent innings
allowing just two
infield hits while
strinking out 6
Patriot players.
The weather
conditions were
terrible but the
Townie defense
played errorless
ball!! Shattuck
also had two hits
and 2 RBI while
Kelly Deschenes
pitched in with two
hits also. Ciara
Charbonneau and Ali
Birkes were on base
all day as both
walked three times. |
April 5
@ Bay View NL
|
W 5-2 |
Amanda Shattuck had
a double and a
triple and drove in
two runs at the
plate while allowing
only 2 hits 0 earned
runs and 0 walks
earning her second
victory of the
year. Katrina
Finona and Ali
Birkes also had two
hits each for the
winners. Senior
Kelly Deschenes got
the Townies going
with a double to
left in the third
inning. Bay View
played a strong game
however both runs
were the result of
two Townie errors.
The Townies travel
to Middletown on
Monday. |
April 8
@ Middletown
|
W 7-0 |
Steph Normand had a
perfect game
entering the fifth
inning and finished
with a 2 hitter, 9
K's and 0 BB's en
route to her second
consecutive
victory. Ali Birkes
went 2-4 with 2 RBI
while Katrina Finona
and Jocelyn Nestell
each added doubles
and an RBI apiece.
EP's pitching and
defense has been
outstanding after
the first four
games. |
April 10
@ Barrington
|
W 10-0 |
Ali Birkes, Jocelyn
Nestell, and
Danielle Normand led
the Townie offense
with two hits each.
Birkes and Nestell
each drilled a
double and drove in
multiple runs for
EP. Amanda Shattuck
threw a one hitter,
striking out 6 in
five innings of
work. Marissa
Savastano and Ciara
Charbonneau helped
keep the Eagles off
the basepaths with
their excellent
defense. Katrina
Finona also drove in
two runs for EP.
The Townies finish
their six game road
trip Friday with a
non-league game
against division
I-North leading
Lincoln. |
April 12
@ Lincoln
|
W 2-0 |
Steph Normand and
Amanda Shattuck
pitched a three-hit
shutout leading EP
past the Lions in a
non-league game in
Lincoln. Both runs
scored in the third
inning as Andrea
Medeiros (2 hits)
scored on Amanda
Shattuck's triple
which was
immediately followed
by Jocelyn Nestell's
triple that plated
Shattuck. The
Townies played
errorless defense as
they upped their
record to 6-0 on the
season and 4-0 in
league play. |
April 15
Chariho
|
W 2-1 |
Andrea Medeiros
tripled and scored
on an error in the
bottom of the 14th
inning as the two
undefeated teams
battled for close to
three hours at
Pierce Field.
Amanda Shattuck
pitched 11 2/3
innings of 3 hit
ball while striking
out 16 Chargers.
Steph Normand
finished the final 2
2/3 to grab the win
for the Townies.
Jill Kiley went the
distance for Chariho
finishing with 12
K's and 0 walks.
Jocelyn Nestell
added two hits for
the Townies. |
April 17
@ North Kingstown
|
L 1-0 |
The Townies weren't
ready to play in the
first inning and a
good North Kingstown
team took advantage
scoring in the
bottom half of the
first. That would
be all they would
need as sophomore
pitcher Maggie Feix
did the rest. EP's
only hits were by
Jocelyn Nestell and
Katrina Finona. The
Townies' offense has
only mustered two
runs in their last
21 innings of play.
The loss spoiled an
excellent pitching
outing by Stephanie
Normand who drops to
4-1 on the season. |
April 23
West Warwick
|
W 3-0 |
Amanda Shattuck
pitched her second
shutout of the year
while striking out
10 Wizards en route
to a 3-0 victory.
The Townie defense
was once again
strong committing
zero errors. The
defense has been
excellent making
only 11 errors in 9
games. Overall, EP
has 5 shutouts in 9
games played. The
offense was led by
birthday girl Andrea
Medeiros who had two
hits, a run scored
and a stolen base.
Marissa Savastano
added an RBI single
scoring Mallery
Andreozzi who had a
pinch hit single in
the fifth inning. |
April 26
@ Westerly
|
L 2-1 |
The Townies lost a
game they shouldn't
have. Steph Normand
struck out 13 out of
a possible 18 outs,
still, the Bulldogs
pulled off the
upset. The Townie
bats have been
silent as they
managed only 3 hits
in the game. EP, who
have lost two out of
the last three
games, drops into
third place behind
Chariho and North
Kingstown with the
loss. Kelly
Deschenes had the
RBI with a double
over the head of the
center fielder. |
April 30
South Kingstown
|
14-4 |
The Townie offense
finally broke out of
its four game slump
slugging 12 hits and
scoring 14 runs in a
14-4 victory over
South Kingstown. EP
played focused and
intense softball for
the entire game.
After surrendering a
3-0 lead in the
third inning, Steph
Normand pitched four
innings of one hit
softball and the
offense scored in
every inning of the
game. Jill Berg
roped a pair of
doubles and singled
in the first inning
driving in 4 runs
for the Townies.
Andrea Medeiros
provided the spark
EP needed as she was
2-2 with 2 walks 3
runs scored and a
pair of stolen
bases. Amanda
Shattuck and Ali
Birkes also provided
big hits and drove
in two runs each.
By far it was the
Townies best game of
the year to date. |
May 3
Pilgrim
|
L 2-1 |
The Townie bats went
silent again as EP
mustered only 2 hits
in the game. Amanda
Shattuck who struck
out 11, allowed 4
hits and 1 earned
run with 0 BB's, was
the hard luck
loser. Two EP
errors in the second
inning allowed
Pilgrim to take a
1-0 lead. In the
bottom half of the
second EP tied the
game on Danielle
Normand's two out
single to center
scoring Ali Birkes.
In the fourth
Lindsay Cavanaugh
stroked a one out
triple and scored on
a two out single.
The loss dropped the
Townies to a 7-3
league record. |
May 6
East Greenwich
|
W 10-0 |
The Townie bats came
out swinging,
scoring runs in
every inning as they
defeated the
Avengers 10-0 at
Pierce Field.
Jocelyn Nestell,
Kelly Deschenes,
Marissa Savastano
and Jill Berg all
had two hits for the
8-3 Townies.
Mallery Andreozzi
had a big two run
single and Andrea
Medeiros was the
catalyst for EP on
the base paths.
Freshman Amanda
Shattuck allowed
only 2 hits 0BB's
and struck out 11
hitters as she
lowered her ERA to a
paltry 0.27. EP
executed extremely
well on the
basepaths. |
May 8
Portsmouth
|
W 10-0 |
The Townie bats
picked up where they
left off on Monday
as they banged out
11 hits and scored
10 runs in
consecutive games.
Mallery Andreozzi,
Kelly Deschenes,
Andrea Medeiros,
Marissa Savastano
and Jill Berg all
had two hits for
EP. Deschenes had 3
RBI, while Berg and
Andreozzi both drove
in two runs apiece.
Amanda Shattuck
scored 3 runs for
the winners. Steph
Normand was superb
as she allowed only
an infield hit and
0BB's in her five
innings of work. |
May 9
Middletown
|
W 5-0 |
The Townies finished
the week in style
outscoring three
opponents 25-0.
Amanda Shattuck was
one strike from a
no-hitter but a hard
hit ball eluded an
excellent effort by
second baseman
Danielle Normand.
Kelly Deschenes and
Ali Birkes led the
offense with two
hits and an RBI
each. EP has a huge
week next week with
Barrington, Chariho
and North Kingstown
on the schedule.
The 10X Game is
tomorrow. |
May 15
@ Chariho
|
L 4-3 |
The Townies
committed 6 errors
and squandered a 3-0
lead to the division
leading Chargers.
After scoring 3 runs
in the top of the
4th inning, 3 errors
allowed Chariho to
get two runs back in
their half of the
fourth. More errors
accounted for the
other two runs as
well. Kelly
Deschenes was the
offensive star with
a two-run double in
the fourth inning.
EP lost its fourth
one run game and
needs to learn to
put away teams when
they are ahead,
especially very good
teams like Chariho. |
May 16
North Kingstown
|
L 2-1 |
EP finished a
frustrating week
with yet another one
run loss. North
Kingstown erased a
1-0 lead in the top
of the fifth inning
and scored the
winning run in the
top of the seventh.
Marissa Savastano
had the lone hit for
the 10-5 Townies.
Amanda Shattuck was
the tough luck loser
allowing only 3 hits
while strinking out
6 Skippers. The
Townies are playing
decent softball but
are not putting away
teams when the
opportunity presents
itself. |
May 19
Barrington
|
W 4-1 |
The Townies bounced
back with a solid
win over the upstart
Eagles. Jill Berg's
two-run double was
the difference as
Stephanie Normand
pitched a 4 hitter
while striking out 8
batters. Andrea
Medeiros was 2 for 4
with 2 runs scored
and added her team
leading 16th stolen
base in 18 games. |
May 20
@ West Warwick
|
W 10-5 |
Ali Birkes and
Jillian Berg both
had two hits while
Marissa Savastano
and Amanda Shattuck
both added two run
doubles to pace the
Townies 9 hit
attack. After a
sluggish start, EP
tallied six runs in
the fourth inning
and added 3 more in
the fifth. 7
different hitters
had at least one hit
for EP. The Townies
stand with a record
of 12-5 and sit
alone in third place
in Division
I-South. Three
crucial games
remain. |
May 24
Westerly
|
W 2-0 |
Amanda Shattuck
allowed only two
infield hits while
striking out 11
Bulldogs en route to
her 5th shutout of
the year. Jocelyn
Nestell tripled in
the first inning and
scored on an error.
In the fifth inning
Andrea Medeiros
singled and scored
on an error to
provide the Townies
with an insurance
run. Steph Normand
make two great plays
in right field for
EP as the Townies
played errorless
ball. Two crucial
games remain. |
May 28
@ South Kingstown
|
W 3-1 |
Pitching, defense,
and timely hitting
were the reason the
Townies defeated a
pumped up South
Kingstown team on
their senior night.
Stephanie Normand
used a good fastball
and mixed in her
changeup to keep the
Rebels off balance.
The defense was led
by great plays from
Danielle Normand,
Jill Berg, Marissa
Savastano, Amanda
Shattuck, and Alison
Birkes. Jocelyn
Nestell singled and
scored on Jill
Berg's double in the
fourth inning. Ali
Birkes' RBI
groundout scored
Berg on the
following play. In
the seventh inning,
Marissa Savastano
had a two out
single, Chelsey
Vallante stole
second and scored on
Andrea Medeiros'
clutch two-out
single. One more
crucial game
remains. |
May 30
@ Pilgrim
|
W 4-1 |
The Townies clinched
the fourth seed in
the state playoffs
with a 4-1 win over
Pilgrim. Jill Berg,
Ali Birkes, Amanda
Shattuck and
Danielle Normand all
had two hits to lead
the Townie attack.
Andrea Medeiros
scored twice and
stole base #'s 18,
19, and 20 on the
year. Amanda
Shattuck scattered
five hits to up her
personal record to
8-3. Marissa
Savastano and
Stephanie Normand
played excellent
defense for EP
The Townies have a
bye to the third
round and wait to
face the highest
seeded team
remaining after the
second round. |
June 4
Playoffs
St. Ray's
|
W 3-1 |
Amanda Shattuck
fired a one hitter
and the Townie
defense did the rest
as EP downed the
Saints in a
quarterfinal game at
Pierce Field. The
Townies scored all
three of their runs
in the first inning
on a walk by Andrea
Medeiros, a
sacrifice bunt by
Danielle Normand
that Medeiros beat
the throw to second
base. Jocelyn
Nestell followed
with a single that
resulted in a
throwing error,
allowing Medeiros to
score. Jill Berg
then had an infield
single scoring
Normand and Shattuck
drove in Nestell
with a sacrifice fly
to centerfield.
Shattuck was superb
allowing only a
double in the 7th
inning and struck
out six. EP moves
to Notte Park to
play the top seeded
Chargers of Chariho. |
June 8
Playoffs:
Notte Park:
Chariho
|
L 5-2 |
The top seeded
Chariho Chargers
took advantage of
four Townie errors
in the third inning
giving the Chargers
an insurmountable
4-0 lead. EP fought
back in the fourth
inning and added two
runs to cut the
deficit in half but
could not muster
anything else
against the toughest
pitcher in the
state, Jill Kiley.
Andrea Medeiros and
Danielle Normand had
the two Townie
hits. EP now plays
North Providence on
Sunday in a loser's
bracket game at
Pierce Field at
2:00. |
June 9
Playoffs:
N.Providence.
8 innings |
L 4-1 |
As expected, a
pitcher's duel
between last year's
All-State pitcher,
Jamie Plamondon and
EP's Amanda
Shattuck, left both
teams with goose
eggs through five
innings of play. A
safety squeeze
produced an earned
run in the sixth for
NP. In the bottom
of the 7th inning
and EP's season
virtually over,
Mallery Andreozzi
drew a two-out walk
and Kelly Deschenes
delivered a clutch
double to right
center plating
Andreozzi. In the
extra frame, the
Cougars took
advantage of two
Townie errors
leading them to a
4-1 win. Great
Season Townies!!! |
