Mount St. Charles vs. East Providence at Notte Park (Loser's Bracket Final)
Mounties Top Townies Again 4-2
The East Providence Softball team was ousted from the State Playoffs by Mount St. Charles.  The Mounties, who knocked the Townies into the loser's bracket, struck again behind the pitching of Katie Mottau.  Mottau allowed a total of five hits in her two games against EP.  After allowing a run in the top of the first inning, the Townies rebounded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame.  Leadoff batter, Alison McBride began the game with a single, went to second on Laura King's sacrifice and scored on Molly Hawksley's single to right.  Julanne DeWillis, courtesy runner for Amanda Shattuck, also came around to score when the right fielder could not field Hawksley's single cleanly.  The Mount responded by scoring three unearned runs in the top of the second inning and held on for the right to play St. Ray's in the state final.  Liz Mellen added the Townies' only other hit in the game.  EP finished the year 16-7 including their second consecutive Division 1-South Title.

Bay View vs. East Providence at Notte Park (Loser's Bracket Semi-final)
Townies Survive, Move On to Mt.St. Charles Rematch
It took almost 24 hours to settle the loser's bracket semi-final game between the Townies and the BayView Bengals.  In the end, it was the Townies who advanced and earned the right to play Mt.St.Charles in the loser's bracket final at Notte Park on Wednesday night.  With East Providence leading 2-0 in the top of the second inning, the heavy rain forced the game to be suspended and to be continued where things left off on Memorial Day.  The Bengals scored a run in the third inning cutting the EP lead to 2-1.  However, Liz Mellen singled, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Michaela Johnson and scored on Ali McBride's single in the bottom of the fourth to give the Townies a two-run cushion that they did not relinquish. Amanda Shattuck earned the victory as she scattered three hits and struck out 12.  Cara Constable, Nicole Durand and Johnson all made key defensive plays for EP.

Shattuck, King, McBride Star as Townies Advance
Amanda Shattuck allowed only one hit and struck out 13 Bulldogs and Ali McBride and Laura King led the offense with back to back singles in the fifth inning as EP turned back Westerly 2-0.  The Townies took a 1-0 lead without registering a hit after a great base running effort by pinch runner Beth Barron.  Barron who replaced Sandy Levesque, stole second, moved to third on a passed ball, and scored on a very aggressive scamper to the plate on a wild pitch.  In the fifth inning, with two outs, Ali McBride singled, stole second, and scored on Laura King's single.  The two runs were all Shattuck would need.  Shattuck was superb as she recorded strikeout number 700 and win number 50 for her career.

Seniors Lead Townies To Next Round
It takes seniors to be successful in the state playoffs.  Yesterday, the seniors on the East Providence Softball Team carried the Townies over Woonsocket 5-0.  Amanda Shattuck threw a one-hitter, Molly Hawksley hit a two-run homerun, and right fielder Laura King threw out a runner at first base taking away a potential leadoff single, all leading EP to the playoff win.  Hawksley and sophomore Alison McBride each had two hits for EP and Michaela Johnson chipped in with a single.  Shattuck finished with seven strikeouts.  The Townies take on division rival Westerly in the next round game.

Mounties Topple Townies 1-0
The East Providence Softball Team continued their first round woes as they dropped a heart-breaking loss to Mount St. Charles sending them into the losers bracket for the third year in a row.  Despite only allowing three hits, Amanda Shattuck took the loss for EP.  The Townies have lost three straight and four out of their last five games.  The EP Offense, who have been shut-out in three consecutive games, could only muster three singles.  The Townies now ace Woonsocket who lost to Warwick Vets.

Townies Lose Second Straight Fall to Bulldogs in 10 Innings
The East Providence Softball Team suffered their second loss in a row and third in their last four games.  The Townie bats have fallen silent for the past week and were shutout for the second time this year.  The day that honored seniors Laura King, Molly Hawksley and Amanda Shattuck did not go EP's way from the beginning.  However, it was the ending that hurt the most.  The Townies hit into a total of three double plays, one in the seventh, eighth and tenth innings.  Cara Constable led the Townies with two hits.  Sandy Levesque and Alison McBride also had hits for the Townies who finished 12-2 in league play.

Saints KO Townies 2-0 in Match of Heavyweights
St. Raphael struck for two runs in the top of the fourth inning on two hits and rode the pitching of Kaleigh Lotti to the victory before a large crowd at Pierce Field.  Alison McBride got the lone hit for the Townies who struck out a season high 12 times in the game.  EP's defense played an excellent game in the much anticipated game between the two powers.  Both East Providence and St.Ray's have won their respective divisions the past two years.  Amanda Shattuck allowed only 3 hits and struck out nine as the tough-luck loser.  The Townies battle Westerly on Senior Day, Monday at Pierce Field.  EP will honor seniors and tri-captains, Laura King, Amanda Shattuck, and Molly Hawksley immediately following the game.

Seniors Amanda Shattuck, Molly Hawksley and Laura King got the Townie Softball Team back to their winning ways.  The most successful group of seniors in Townie softball history combined for six of the eight hits and Shattuck threw her 12th shutout of the season to beat the Patriots at Pierce Field.  With the victory, EP captured their second consecutive Division 1-South Title and their third in the last five years.  Shattuck came a bloop single to right field short of a perfect game.  She added 12 K's in her seven innings of work.  Liz Mellen hit a three-run double in the third inning and Hawksley (2B) and Shattuck (3B) also had extra base hits for the Townies.  Nicole Durand made a great diving catch for EP.

Canes Shock Townies 2-1
Warwick Vets and Jenna Barrett did something no team has been able to do against the Townies in league play this year, score a run and win the game.  Barrett drilled a two-run homerun into the gap in left centerfield providing all the runs needed to defeat the punchless Townies.  Vets, after getting beat 15-0 by the Townies earlier this year, improved their record to 9-3.  EP who only mustered two hits against starter Casey Doyle, was led by Holly Gibeault who singled in EP's lone run in the third inning.  Amanda Shattuck's improbable consecutive scoreless inning streak ended at an amazing 74 innings.  The Townies can clinch their second consecutive Division 1-South title with a win against Pilgrim on Wednesday at Pierce Field.

Amanda Shattuck threw her 11th straight shutout and Molly Hawksley had two hits and three runs scored to lead EP over Chariho 5-0.  Hawksley led off the second inning with a double to right and alertly moved to third on a passed ball and scored two pitches later on a ball that barely got away from the catcher to give the Townies a 1-0 lead.  Hawksley also led off the 4th (single) and 6th (HBP) innings and came around to score each time.  Shattuck helped her own cause with a two-run double in the seventh inning.  Shattuck allowed only an infield hit in the fifth inning while striking out 15 Chargers.  The Townies won their third game in four days.  Shattuck's scoreless inning streak increased to 71 innings.

Shattuck's No Hitter Durand's Squeeze Propel Townies
Amanda Shattuck threw her fourth career no-hitter and Nicole Durand's suicide squeeze proved to be the difference in the match-up of the perennial powers.  Shattuck who came two outs from a perfect game, struck out seven of the first eight batters the Skippers sent to the plate.  EP, who squandered excellent scoring opportunities, finally struck in the sixth.  Shattuck led off with a walk and was replaced by courtesy runner, Holly Gibeault.  Gibeault took second on an infield out and scampered to third on a wild pitch.  Durand, who had a perfect squeeze in the game against South Kingstown on Tuesday, came through again.  Only an infield error kept Shattuck from the first perfect game in Townie Softball History.  Shattuck ended with 12 strikeouts on the day.

Townies look good in first scrimmage
After only one practice on a field, the Townies took on a good North Smithfield team at Pierce Field.  Amanda Shattuck returned to the mound with veteran battery-mate Molly Hawksley and kept the Northmen in check through her five innings of work.  Sophomore pitcher Casey Gonsalves did well in relief of Shattuck.  Transfer Cara Constable had multiple hits for the Townies and new shortstop Liz Mellen belted a triple.
