Townies Bats Go Silent in 4-0 Loss
After making a terrific comeback in the second half of the season, the Townies picked a tough time to go cold.  EP managed a bloop single and an infield hit as Danielle Lotti of the Saints kept the Townies off balance all day.  The Saints scored a run in the second inning, one in the third on a long homerun from Jen Tartaglia, and two in the sixth to secure the first round victory.  Kelley Clancy pitched well in relief for EP.  The Townies will lose seven seniors to graduation but a nice nucleus remains for the 2007 season.

Townies Look Sharp Down Rebels 7-1
The East Providence Softball Team is playing its best softball of the season at the right time of the year.  After a dismal first half of the season (2-5), EP did an about face and finished 5-2 in the second half to even their record at 7-7.  South Kingstown who defeated the Townies 3-1 in April, thanks in large part to 5 EP errors, saw a very different opponent on Wednesday.  Casey Gonsalves pitched 6 strong innings allowing only three hits and an earned run.  Michaela Johnson, Beth Barron, Ali McBride, Cara Constable, and Caity Arico all had two hits for the Townies.  The Townie defense did not commit an error for only the second time this year.

Townies Honor Seven Seniors in Home Finale
In their final home league game, EP seniors Cara Constable, Sarah Crevier, Holly Gibeault, Michaela Johnson, Sandy Levesque and captains Liz Mellen and Nicole Durand were given a memorable send off by the EP juniors.  Unfortunately, the Westerly Bulldogs didn't do their part as they defeated the Townies 2-0 in a well played game.  Samantha Shawn stuck out 17 and added a solo homerun to lift the Bulldogs to their league leading 12th win.  Cara Constable, Michaela Johnson, and Kelley Clancy had the hits for EP who fell to 6 wins and 7 losses in the league.  The Townie defense continued its stellar play as of late as it did not commit an error in the game, for only the second time this season.  EP will complete their league schedule at South Kingstown next week.

Townies Qualify for Playoffs With 3-2 Victory
For the eighth year in a row, the Townie Softball Team qualified for the division one state playoffs.  After trailing 1-0, EP struck for two runs in the top of the 4th inning.  Michaela Johnson walked, stole second base and scored on Nicole Durand's single to center.  Durand, who took second on an outfield miscue, was then lifted for pinch runner Danielle Rizzini.  Rizzini later scored on an RBI groundout off the bat of Sandy Levesque.  In the following frame, Michaela Johnson had a clutch two-out single to centerfield that plated Beth Barron who had walked with two outs.  Kelley Clancy pitched the final 2 2/3 innings striking out 6 Chargers to preserve the victory for the Townies.  The Townies improved to 6 and 6 on the season.

Canes Slug Townies 5-0
The Warwick Vets Softball Team showed why they are one game out of first place as they smacked the Townies around in a 5-0 victory.  EP mustered only three hits against Vets' ace Casey Doyle.  As it stands, the Townies' record is 5 and 6 in league play and EP needs one more win to qualify for the state playoffs in division one.  EP travels to Chariho on Tuesday.

Townies Rally Late, Overtake Oakers 10-8
The East Providence Softball Team hasn't been easy on itself all year.  The league contest against the Knotty-Oakers was no different.  After trailing by as much as 8-3, the Townies scored 3 in the fifth, 3 in the sixth, and 4 in the seventh to notch their 4th league victory against five losses.  Kelley Clancy, who replaced Casey Gonsalves in the 3rd inning, earned her first varsity win.  Clancy allowed one earned run on three hits while striking out six in her 4 innings of relief.  The Townies who mustered only five hits on the day, got two huge blows from seniors Sandy Levesque and Liz Mellen.  In the 6th, Levesque drove a two-run double over the outfielder's head in left and Mellen added a clutch two-run single in the 7th inning.

Rebels Take Advantage of Townie Miscues in 3-1 Win
The Townie Softball Team made an error in each of the first two frames giving the Rebels a 2-0 lead that they would never relinquish.  EP came within a run in the third inning when Michaela Johnson singled sharply to center scoring Beth Barron with two outs.  However, the Rebels added an insurance run in the 5th providing Laura Nigro, the Rebel senior pitcher, all the run support she would need.  Liz Mellen and Michaela Johnson both played excellent defense for the Townies who dropped to 2-5 in the league.

Townies Play Bulldogs Tough; Lose 4-0
The Townies matched the undefeated Westerly Bulldogs play for play for four innings but fell victim to their Achilles heel, errors in the fifth and sixth innings.  Behind sophomore Kelley Clancy's pitching, the Townies were putting up zeroes defensively, and had the better chances to score early in the game.  However, Westerly loaded the bases on walks and scored two unearned runs in the fifth and two more unearned runs in the sixth to seal their sixth straight victory.  Alison McBride had the lone hit for the Townies who fell to 2-4 on the season.

Error Prone Townies Fall to Chariho
The East Providence Softball Team committed 5 errors allowing 3 unearned runs in a losing effort to Chariho.  After Julia Stoner drilled a solo homerun to put the Chargers on top in the top of the fourth inning, EP evened the score as Julanne DeWillis raced home on a wild pitch in the bottom of the frame.  However, EP's two errors in the fifth and two more in the sixth sealed their fate as Chariho scored three unearned runs en route to their second victory of the season.  Cara Constable drilled an RBI triple in the sixth to cap the rest of the scoring.  Alison McBride had the other hit for EP.  The Townies are now 2-3 on the year.

Townies Offense Comes Alive; Gonsalves Pitches 3-Hitter
The East Providence Softball Team got a huge boost from junior pitcher Casey Gonsalves as she recorded a 3-hit, 8 strikeout shutout of Pilgrim.  The victory gets EP back to an even 2-2 record.  The Townie offense got an early spark from Cara Constable and Sandy Levesque who hit back to back homeruns in the top of the second inning.  Nicole Durand and sophomore Caity Arico also had 3 hits to lead the 15 hit attack.  Beth Barron and Michaela Johnson chipped in with two hits each.  Arico who threw two runners out at first base from right field as well as Liz Mellen and Levesque turned in excellent defensive performances for EP.
